The brake lights on my 74 work intermittently. sometimes yes sometimes no. Tried replacing the switch at the pedal. What I find is that if I wiggle and twist the wire (with the small blue plastic plastic square on it about an inch off the back of the switch) that I can get them to come on and go off. Having trouble seeing under there and not sure what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. A newbie.

Sounds to me like you have a broken or bare wire there. It is probably up higher than you are able to see. You'd probably have to pull the dash apart, or see if it runs through the firewall. I'm guessing not, though. Hopefully someone here has had to replace that wire and can give you more detail.

Good luck.

Did you replace the switch?

Here's what it looks like (The yellowist looking one, not the one with the link.) This is from a 4 speed car.

Fixed !!

Thanks for the advice. I had replaced the switch as the lights were not working at all. Once replaced they worked when I wiggled it. After looking at your picture and the switch I removed I noticed it was somewhat different that the one my nearby national diso**** auto parts store sold me. So I went to Chevy got one and wha-la it works. Thanks for the all the feedback.
