Hi,
I replaced the calipers and master on my '81 and bled everything. I can't get the brake light to go out and don't have good pedal. The fronts had really good pressure, but I had to gravity bleed the rears. How do I get the proportioning valve (or whatever) to reset so I can rebleed the rears?
Thanks.

Did you bleed BOTH bleeders on the rear calipers? If not, then that is where your pedal is hiding!

SAVE THE :w

Dash light indicates a problem with the system. Bleed them again. On the rears, bleed the inner caliper halves first, then the outers.

:)

Someone else had a similar problem.
JohnZ had some good information about brakes.

Search the forum for it.

Good Luck!

rebleed the rears properly as listed above, then fronts. If you still don't get pedal, you may want to try a new MC. My new one was defective and had the same mushy feel.
Your brake light switch is underneath the dash and is just a pressure switch that hits a tab on the brake pedal. Make sure it's aligned with the tab. If it is not hitting the tab, the lights will not turn on.

Do you mean the brake system warning light in the cluster, or the brake lights at the rear of the car?

:beer
The cluster light stays on. I don't think the problem is the mc because I have really good pressure at the fronts, I think the little switch in the prop. valve is switched over but I don't know how to get it reset. Does that sound possible?

...Does that sound possible?...
Yes and No. A hard applcation of the brakes is supposed to reset the valve. Have you checked the e-brake handle? Light will also come on if the e-brake handle does not seat securely enough to turn the switch off.

Have you bled the system again since your original post?

:)
