Brake noise

When I back out of my garage, I am noticing a sound (clunking) coming from the drivers front brakes as I apply the brake. If I pump the brake it happens for 6 or 7 pumps and then goes away. Once the car is in 1st and going forward - no sound when I hit the brake. But if I stop & put the car in reverse and start backing up, I get the clunking sound again until I hit the brakes a few times (or hold the brake pedal down for a few seconds).

Anybody have any thoughts?

96 LT4 CE Convertible with about 35K mileage.

Also, are there any maintenance items I should consider beyond the typical oil, brakes, etc. that I should consider with the car with 35K?

Had a similar problem last week

On my 88... when I did the brakes.. the pads did not include the Bias springs.

This is a combo U shaped with an L on the end

The U clamps around the bottom of the pad and pushes the caliper UP... without it you have 1/32 to 1/16 of an inch of slop ( the caliper floats).

If the caliper moves.....KLUNK!

So the spring MIGHT be weak or tweaked.

If you go over a bump.. does the front end rattle?

88-96 pads are all the same..

It COULD also be the Ball joints or front bearings or front bushings or the connections for the front sway bar... time to scope it out!

Thanks Vig!

Will try to poke around in there this weekend.
