Brake pedal clevis

1965 white coupe 383 stroker, 405HP, 440TQ, TKO600
I'm in the process of rebuilding the clutch and brake pedals. Everything is going back in place smoothly except the brake pedal has two holes in it and I don't remember whether it was the top hole or bottom hole that the clevis rod went to.
Is there a reason for two holes. I don't have power steering if that matters

Mark I will check my 1966 tonight to see where it goes I will be home around 7:30 pm tonight .

Please explain what you have done so far I have all the parts to do this job to my self .
I collected all the parts for this last fall and never got around to doing it yet.How hard was it to remove the pedal assembly
 
It's very easy thanks to JohnZ's help on the forum. If you have everything you need it probably takes a day. Mine took alittle longer cuz I usually can only spend an hour at a time due to other commitments.
Basically you do the following in this order:
pull seat, pull steering wheel (disconnect at set screw above rag joint and plate on firewall). support master cylnder, pedal bracket bolts through firewall with 4 studs, and under dash with 2 bolts. Assembly will then pull out. I took the assembly in the cellar and replaced bushings, springs,greased heaverly with lubriplate (white grease) then put back in reverse order.
I did have a little set back.
1. the firewall studs are pem studs and they fell out so I tack welded them in place.
2. Once the bracket is in place and the master cylnder is bolted up you can't get the clevis rod in. you have to put the clevis rod in first.

Mark thank you for the information .I have a power brake car and mine is in the lower hole .I will have to read my aim manual to see if it explains why it went into the lower hole.

Also I must say wait till I read my aim manual to say why its in the lower hole

I have bad knees and when I first purchased the car (actually all the cars I own) I always modify the brake pedal to lower it to the floor this was I can use the brake with out taking my heel of my foot off the floor .
On this car I actually removed the power brake actuator rod off cut it then re threaded it so I could shorten the throw.It still has the same stroke Its just thats its closer to the floor.I will try and read about it tonight unless some one else knows why there is a choice in the holes

Top hole = standard brakes
Bottom hole = Power brakes

PS: I meant to say not power brake but I said not power steering.:duh
 
I assumed you meant power brake

I still cant find the refrence anyplace about the correct hole to use.allthought if JOHN SAYS IT SO THAN TO ME ITS A FACT I just know I read about it some where and canot find the information now
 
If you look in the '65 A.I.M. Power Brake section (J50, Sheet 3), you'll see the clevis in the lower hole in the pedal, and an add-on striker bracket for the stop light switch bolted in the upper hole; on a manual brake car, you don't need the extra bracket, as they use one that's already welded into the pedal support, and the clevis goes in that upper hole.

John why is it not in the 66 aim when I go to the option section and it shows the attachment of the rod it refers you to the brake section upc5 witch makes no mention of the 2 holes.I know I have read it before but cant find it now?
 
It refers you back to UPC 5 for the clevis, jam nut, pin and retainer attachment and adjustment notes, which are the same parts used for the standard manual brakes - you have to look at the illustration in the J50 section to see that it goes in the lower hole - the guys in the plant just "knew that".
