Well last week I got into the car and noticed the brakes not feeling like they normally do. The pedal traveled a little farther then normal and was a little spongy. I planned on checking things out but as usual i didn't get to it. Drove the car again and all was well. I didnt' think much of it at the moment. At least until today when i got in to drive the car and had no pedal. I checked the fluid and to my surprise found no fluid to check. I made a quick visual check and found no signs of leakage. I am going to take the wheels off tomorrow. Any suggestions other than the obvious problem?

Thanks
Craig

Most probable cause: master cylinder / vacuum boost failure. The fluid drains into the vacuum booster between the Master Cylinder and the firewall. If you're lucky, you'll have caught it before you started it and sucked the fluid into the induction or the oil... Pull the vacuum line off and see if it is dripping out. If that is it, You've only got a few hour project, along with a couple of bills for parts. This would be an excellent time to flush out the system completely and if necessary, redo your pads and rotors.

Other possibility, leak in the caliper. That can be a real mess. Check it out closely.....

i just did the master cylinder in my '73....$25 for the part at Carquest. had a friend install it at his shop...good thing too...needed a caliper in the rear passenger side.

I pulled the vacum line off the booster and it was bone dry. Now what? I have one tire off and haven't spotted any leaks, I will pull the other three off and inspect for leaks. Any more suggestions?

I found the leakage. I am a dumbass, it is leaking from the back of the master cylinder against the booster. So now what?

Thanx

like a 93?

i have a 93 vette and the leak was at the line going from the ABS unit to the left rear wheel.rite at the hard bend it was rotted iut. and then the line going to the r.r. looked bad too. it seems its the extreem bend that messes them uo there. so pump some brake fluid thru the system (takes a bit to see it leak @that location)and meybe thats it. if it is i can give you the procedure to fix it with out the hassle i had.

Replace or rebuild the master cylinder.

It's almost certainly the master cylinder. If you have no leaks in the brake lines, you will need to replace your m/c right away.
