It's time to change brakes on my 86 coupe. Any opinions/ resources out there on good brake pads and slotted/ cross drilled rotors. My friend has '87 convertible. Should be same when considering pads/ rotors.

I've gone with Bosch pads on all my cars: Vette', '83 Z28 and '94 Camry. Haven't had any problems or issues.

As for the slotted/cross drilled rotors, one of our members GS Diva got a great deal on her Vette's. I'll find that link and post it.

Found the link:

We ordered them from Sport Brakes in Dallas (www.sportbrakes.com). Their web site isn't updated so just call them at 972-620-9311 and ask for Ras or email at info@sportbrakes.com. We're more than happy with them and their service!!

That was a quote from GS Diva.

I just did my 86. I went with power something cross drilled rotors from Summit Racing at around $80.00 ish, and they are nice. They have a gold cad plating on them for rust prevention at the hub. As far as the pads, I used the upper grade Raybestos pads and they are working out fine. If your doing the brakes, now is the time to swap out the shocks. Takes all about ten minutes per wheel to get the shocks off. I used KYB from summit at around $29 each.

Good luck

Wow, those are darn good prices for those shocks! How much did those pads cost you? Did you do all four corners or just the front?

The pads were around $49.00 bucks. They can be ordered online at Advanced auto parts, and I think Pep boys handles them too. You will go broke using brand names such as Bilstein shocks, Brembo for rotors and EPC for pads so I tend to buy well known common automotive Mfg. brand name products that is made in the states for my 86. As far as Summit racing goes, you will not be disapointed, they are great and have access to more than what is listed in their catalog. Summit can get you anything far cheaper than anyone that I have found. For example, I paid like $389.00 for a cat back Flowmaster exhaust system. Ecklers and Corvette central wanted over $500.00 for the same system! The mark up is huge with the specialty Corvette part houses, so beware.
