Brights light stays on

I can't find anything in the forum regarding a brights headlight short. In the low beam mode, my Lt. headlight is bright and the Rt. headlight turns very dim. while the brights light on the dash/interior stays on. (shouldn't be on)
Also, In the high beam mode my Lt. headlight is bright and the Rt. headlight turns very dim. The brights light on the dash/interior stays on. (should be on)
Summary: In both cases, the high and low beam with the headlight on the Rt. side is very dim and the brights light in the dash is always on in high or low.
Can anybody help me on this problem??

sounds like you have a bad ground, might have a bad dimmer switch, but bad ground is most likely

When I had this problem on another vehicle, I found that the plug on one light bulb had melted, allowing the high and low beam wires to touch...

BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!

The foglights work through the ground in the high beam circuit. That prevents the foglights from staying on when the high beams are. (there is a way around that though) When my dash indicator stayed on it turned out to be a melted plug to the headlight. I'd check there first because it's easier then finding a bad ground. And while you're at it, check the plugs to the foglights as well.
This past weekend I ran a seperate ground for each foglight so they stay on even when the highbeams are lit. That little fix also got the dash indicator to not come on when using just low beams which given the grounding issue it would do.

Thanks for all your ideas, friends. Somehow I believe the short may be in the connector to the headlamp on the Rt. side. I disconnected it and re connected it and all was normal. Then I started the car turned the lights on and the same problem again. I will review all your ideas before jumping to a conclusion about the brights switch in the steering column which I kind of suspect is not responsible. thank God...
