Needle bearings were discovered on the magnetic drain plug on my car when I took it in to the dealer for an oil change and a couple of other things.

Car was built JAN 07 and had 3797 miles and cylinder #7 and #8 intake rocker arms were broken and replaced under warranty.

Please post to this thread or email/PM me if you have had this happen to your car as I am creating a list of failures to see how widespread this issue is.

Please include your cars build date!

Thanks
Kristoffer

How to find your car's build month:
Look at the back of the driver's side door:

HI there,
First, honestly, they dont explode.
The end cap staking loosens and the needles fall harmlessly into the oil pan.
A ticking noise will accompany this type of failure.
This design has been out since 1997 and has been very very reliable.
Does this failure happen? yes.
Does it harm the engine? Only if not addressed in a timely manner.
Allthebest, c4c5

So far I have a list of 20 cars that have had this failure, all 2007 Z06, and of those that I know the build month (12), the build range was from JAN 2007 - JUN 2007.

2006 Z06 does not have magnetic drain plugs (except for maybe late build ones).
2007 Z06 has magnetic drain plugs.
2008 Z06 has magnetic drain plugs until it was deleted from the build sometime in January 08.
