'Build sheet' for a '79 - Where would I look?

Where would they have put the 'Build sheet' for a '79 ?...or did they still do that? ......if anyone can help...Thanks

I read once that they were on top of the gas tank in the older cars but I don't know the years. I found mine in my '96. It was between the retaining band and the top of the tank. I could see it and feel it, but couldn't get it out without ripping it so I left it.
