Has anyone ever found one placed elsewhere in the car???

I know my tank sticker is gone, but I have heard of a few stories about finding a build sheet behind the dash??
anyone ever hear of this???

I guess im grasping for a sliver of hope that I can find one somewhere

Yes, there have been people who have found copies in the seat and some behind the speedo but it's rare.

Good Luck!

I read once in an old Corvette Fever Mag of one being found in a frame member.

The build sheet was a multi-part carbon form. It was used up and down the assembly line to make sure that the right parts got on the car. When the station was done with the car and it moved on down the line the worker would throw their copy of the build sheet in the trash, they were done with it. But.....sometimes they were rushed and would just stick it somewhere in the car. They have been found behind the dash (between the speedo and tach), under the carpet, in the springs under the seat, in the doors, and just about any where you can think of.

But nothing was done on a regular basis. All depended upon the line worker. Search your car, may be one and may not. May have been at one time but some past owner threw them out as trash. I remember a new car I got in the late 60's. It had some type of production papers stuck under the seats. I just threw them away. If the car still exists today, bet the current owner would love to have those papers. :D

Is there a way to get a look at the tank sheet without dropping the tank?:Steer

I know what the build sheets "were" and what they were for and I also know what happen to most of them..... Ill just have to keep my fingers crossed and hope I can find mine...

you see I bought this car after some NRCS and CF folks went and took a look at it for me and confirmed that everything shows what it was originally Id just like to get that all knowing build sheet
you know what I mean....... :gap

unfortunately because I am out in the Persian Gulf I have not yet been able to tear into the car and search it yet :cry

The build sheet is on the top RH side of the gas tank,
It was put on with some glue and slapped on!
Without dropping the tank you could try to look up there with a mirror and a flashlight I do not know if you will be able to see it but if there is some paper up there I suggest dropping the tank and carefully removing it if you do remove it and then do everything you can to protect it!

It depends upon if your car has AC or not. If you have AC then the Astro-Ventilation grills on the rear deck are just for looks and have nothing under them. Remove them and you can shine a flashlight on the edge of the tank and see the sticker if it's there or make a skinny-armed neighbor kid stick his arm down there and feel around on the top of the tank.

Sorry, not trying to lecture you on what they were. Just trying to make a point that they could be anywhere.

Only on the convertible. On the coupe they are over the storage compartment and still have the containment area and drains. The convertible with A/C has open vents where you can see the ground.

I recently removed my spare tire carrier to do some cleaning. I was able to use a mirror and a flashlight to see on top of my tank (you can even feel around a little bit).

Unfortunately I saw no evidence of my tank sticker :(

If you are real careful, you can bend over the rubber gas neck seal at the filler and shine a flashlight to see if it is attached to the top of the tank. I found mine but it's not in good shape. Good luck.
:cool

Johnny... you be careful over there. I have a lady friend whose son is in Qatar and he's sittin' tight too. I got the Build Sheet off the tank on my '81 then stumbled on one years later under the rear carpet in the rear deck back by the rear speakers. Double sweet.

Be safe. Semper Fi ............ Nut

Yeah it kinda suck over here right now lots of questions weather were going to return home on time or not!
supposed to be back in march but I have my fingers crossed..

We are the only MUE in the area so if something happens you fellas will get to see me on CNN!!!
