What is this? I replaced my rotors last spring and this year I am noticing this. Called them socks cause I don't know the name. What do they do and do I need them? Any help would be nice.
Thanks ahead of time.

They are brake pad shims used to reduce noise.

Mine do not have these but I have used them on other vehicles that I have put brakes on; they are a deadner material/self adhesive gasket that you peel off the backing paoer and stick to the pads to reduce or eliminate noise chatter from the pads to the caliber and piston. Not sure why they would be bunching up like this either. :confused Possibly from the heat and or movement but like I said I have not seen them do this; but then again they are more visiable on a Vette. Not so sure I would get in there with a sharp utiity knife and cut around them and remove them, more than likely you won't even notice the differance. At least that is what I would do rather than removing the calibers and etc.

Take care,

Bill :w
