Have a 2001 Coupe M6 with 4800 miles. Lately after driving & parked in my garage I noticed a burning plastic/rubber smell. Seems like it is coming from the right front, opened the hood & it is strongest at the back of the motor near the battery compartment. Checked under the car, no plastic bags, etc on the exhaust. Any ideas???

Sorry I can't help you, but I'm sure one of our experts will chime in shortly! Welcome to the CAC.

I checked for a bulletin...no.

Can you closely inspect the exhaust manifold and exhaust? There could be a small piece of plastic that you cannot see such as one of the wiring harness fasteners etc....

Closely look at the computer and the tac module also, which is located under the battery in the fender well...there is allot of wiring there. :duh

I had the same issue. I jacked up the car and started snooping around underneath. What I found was a bundle of wires enclosed in looming (the black flxible hose) and it had melted from being so close to the exhaust manifold. I ain't sure whihc wires are in it but the wires themselves were fine. You might want to get that checked a relocated or at least puled away from the exhaust manifold quickly.
