My car stalled twice on the way home tonite, and felt a little "strange" when I was going around a corner.... When I got home, the first things I checked of course were all the vital fluids. When I checked the power steering fluid, it was black when I wiped off the dip stick, and it smelled burnt. I've never had to empty or change all the power steering fluid in any of my vettes in the past, but kinda seems like it's going to be a necessity for this one.

Anyone know of any connections this may, or may not have had with the stalling? Vacuum line or something perhaps?

Any insight is greatly appreciated as always!

to be honest, there is no connection that I can see between the powersteering and the stalling.

the burnt fluid, tho... thats another problem.

the racks in the C4s are prone to a nasty problem called "morning sickness".

the steering starts to moan and make nasty sounds when cold.

your best solution is to flush the powersteering fluid and hope for the best.

how many miles do you have??

my rack has been making noises for a while, but the current sounds are more audible since I replaced idler and tensioners!!!

Thanks Bogus!

I really didn't think there was much of a chance or connection with the two, but thought I would toss it out here anyway. : )

I have 81k miles on the car, and it's all original. I've never had any noises coming fropm the PS, and never had any weird handling until I went around a curve tonite, then it felt strange, but can't put my finger on it.

I'll probably flush it out this next w'end, but don;'t have any other insight into the stalling issue. BTW, the stalling occurred at low RPM's, stopped, in gear, or coming to a stop, and not at higher RPM's going down the interstate.

;help

I replaced my steering fluid by removing fluid from the tank ran for a while and repeated until all was clear but it never smelled burnt not sure what that means.:beer
