My driver's seat has a broken frame on the left side, per the dealer. $500+ to replace. Is the seat/frame hard to remove/replace? Is it hard to get the seat off the frame once it is all removed? Any instructions for replacement? Can they be welded??

Any thoughts / help would be greatly appreciated.

Ken :)

I haven't done this on my 01, but it was not much trouble removing and replacing the seat frames on my 94. A few bolts and a couple of electrical connectors. As to whether or not it can be welded...I'd say if it is metal, it could be welded.

Depends on whats Broke! (Seat Tracks/and where!) (Seat Bottom Frame/and where!) (Seat Back/SMC,Had to fix a few!) Got any Photos?;shrug

Broken seat frame

Is it "broken" as in rocks back and forth or "broken" as in doesn't move, or...?

I just fixed mine for the dreaded "rocking back and forth" which in my case was more of a slight forward and rearward movement, depending on the attitude of the car. The movement was most noticable under acceleration or braking.

This is caused by the wear of a small spacer in the seat track assembly and easily fixed for about $20.00

The dealer doesn't fix it, he just replaces it.

So, find out what it needs and don't trust your dealer to give you the simple, best or most cost effective fix.
