I was watching Jay Lenos Garage, Pebble Beach. Jay puts the key FOB into the steering column, maybe the dash, then pushes the push button on the dash to start the car. Is this something new. On a C-6 it was only necessary that the FOB was nearby, proximity. If this is a change for the C-7, why was it necessary. Thanks for any info.

key fob answer

no it is not necessary to insert the fob for the car to work. however there is a slot on the steering column to insert and hold the fob if you wish to do so. it kind of locks in the slot and easily removed but it does NOT have to be in there for any reason that i have found. i think the owners manual give an example of using it but it does not come to mind now.

Owner's manual says to do that only when the battery in the FOB is dead. This will get the car started and to the battery store. Wallgreens usually works for me. Just around the corner and 1/3 the cost of GM battery.
