C1 1960 Bumpers and center grill...HELP!!!

I looked at some old photos of the body before the front end got changed. Here is how it used to look. See the white circled areas, notice how the sides are cut out for the bumpers. Is that correct? Down below that is another photo and it has the new front end and does not have those notches in it, but rather the sides go straight down from the trim that goes around the center grill teeth.

I think I need to "trim" that area out so that the bumpers go in on the sides of the center grill opening. Is that right????????

I need to know how much to trim the notches to. Can anyone help with the dimensions or close up photos?

I think I have it under control....I cut out those rectangular areas.....

It's a pretty simple cut. Here is how they did it at St. Louis.
