C1 Triple Crown beauty

You know....I hate to sound like a Vette Snob.... But Think about it...

I think the C-1's and The C-2's are the Best looking vettes ..Just My $.02 ..

C-3's are cool but there's something about those C-1 C-2 Vette's. Kinda like looking at a Hot Chick...:upthumbs

61 Corvette Trunk lid

Welcome Dennis

It is great to have another 61 owner on board.

The trunk lid fit fine on my 61 prior to body off. There was some damage to the left rear body mount and I had to rebuild. This change the amount of body to frame shims. My trunk fit is better that the one in the picture but I would like it to be perfect. I have played with the shims for the trunk hinges to lid and I plan on changing the amount shims between the body and frame on the rear mount next spring.

Welcome

Good point Ray. This makes sense as there is allot of flex in that area, but I would also consider that shimming may also affect your driver door fit.

Gotta love Canadian Classics. Dale extracted a promise from me to send a bunch of pictures of my resto but I need to get the final 'poster' picture done.

Bob Anderson's (a buddy from North Bay ) who took 1st at Wasaga 2 years ago (Canada's largest meet, 500 vettes). Like a new C1, but when I took him out in the '68 427 for coffee he bowed to the power.
This is his car...

Dammit! I resize the bejesus out of this pic and still can't upload it until it is too deformed. I'll send it to Mac...

That's a beautiful C1. By the time I will be able to afford another Corvette, I won't be able to afford a C1, the way prices are going. :(

Trunk Lid

That's a beauty but what is with the trunk lid. The left rear corner looks like it is up quite a bit above where is should be. Just surprised to see this on a triple crown winner. :confused
I saw that immediately, were the judges blind? :L

Maybe it was displayed with the trunk open.

I was looking at a batch of 61-62 photos last night that I culled for reference for my own project and suprisingly there are quite a few with the raised trunk lid on the drivers side to varying degrees. Maybe there was a factory warping problem :confused

No, bad repair, they should be flat. One way to easlily spot a car that was more likely than not, hit in the rear.

Good point but are they also more likely to be hit on the drivers side rear?

61 Trunk

Hi! Studiog

I believe that when you drop your body on the 61 you will need to change the amount of shims at each body mount point to achieve the best gaps, alignments and ride height. My door gaps, convertible deck and trunk alignment was very good compared to other C-1 that I have viewed. I am not sure how the rear left body mount got damaged, but the previous owner told me that snow chains! Yes show chain came loose and caused the damage.

Looking forward to seeing pictures of your 61!

This is a common malady affecting a lot of 61 and 62 cars. Judges do not deduct for this affliction. In some regards, the lack of it is the same as the rear lower corner of a door on a 58-60 fitting well, It gets the judges looking to see if a lot of work has been done to make it fit!

I love it. :D

Strangely enough, I have owned 2 '61 cars and neither had a warped trunk lid issue. One was back in '68 and it had never been hit.

Also, as the '61/ '62 cars were my passion earlier in life, I looked at lots of them in the late '60s and don't remember the trunk warpage being an issue.

Just my 2 cents

Take care,
Brian

Ray I may be calling on you for advice when I get to that point. I could kick myself for not taking note of the amount of shims at each mount point when I took it apart. But maybe I would have had to start over anyway as I had my frame trued up at a body shop when it was down to just the frame rails.

I was just wondering about the left as opposed to the right side. Maybe it wasn`t the drivers fault! But just think, those years 61-62 have been around for many moons and nearly all of them have gone through several drivers and owners. {except mine} Being as the bumpers are only stuck {bolted} on the glass and pretty weak, parallel parking by idiots could hit the left rear more often as the right is protected by curbs. :D But either side repairs require very special patience as a fraction off at the door multiplies as it gets to the rear and is normally too late to do over with out another new panel. Therefore some low corners are the result. I know my deck lid fits perfectly flat. If I posted a picture it would be tough to see as it`s a black car. Well thats my take on the subject and I have frequently noticed it in other threads but never got involved until this thread. I`m open for other ideas. :upthumbs But It`s still a very nice Red 61.
