C2 Coupe Rear Glass question

When I removed the rear glass, I wrote down "6 rubber bumpers (2 on each side; 2 at the bottom)" in my notes.

The Service Manual and all the catalogues say, "Set of 12". Huh? I know that I removed only six (I still have them) and the rear glass had "never" been out of the car.

If there should be 12, who knows the placement? Seems like too many!!!

ALSO, are the grooves towards the glass or the window frame?

Thanks.

Nobody here ever install a C2 Coupe rear window? Help. :)
Bob,

I replaced mine but I can't remember how many bumpers there were............seems to me that there were more than 6

I need to find my pics of the install.

I will see what I can find.

I checked my video this morning on my '65 coupe, there were 12. However, there are six of one kind (PN 4459429) and six of another (PN4871330). They're shown on page F16 of the '65 assembly manual, and I believe about the same page number of my '66 assembly manual. One set of six goes under the rear window glass and keeps the glass from totally compressing the sealant bead. The second set of six is located around the perimeter of the glass (they touch the edge of the glass) and keep the glass centered in the opening.

If you have an assembly manual, that'd be the place to look, also shows correct placement location for both types of spacers. Unless some change was made to the method of assembly for 1967, I'd suspect yours should be about the same.

If you need locations for the spacers, let me know & I'll copy & post the page out of my assembly manual.

Hope this helps!

Ron,

I ordered a full set of 12 from LI, but I'm gradually learning that "some" items did not get installed at St. Louis.

For instance, my rear window had never been out before and there were only 6 bumpers. Also, the wiper motor was held to the firewall by three, not four, screws. Even the rubber-surrounded nut mount was absent from the firewall-facing side of the wiper motor, and that motor has never before been off the car.

I'm sure I'll find more before this is all over. :D

P.S. I'm thinking about leaving some grease-pencil notes on the inside of the new "wider" fenders for a future restorer to freak out over........
"ZL-X Pilot Body - Z.A.D. appr'v"

That outta drive them nuts in 2035. ;LOL

I've run into a few items myself that were a little different than shown in the assembly manual. Guess the guys putting them together got a little distracted now and then, who knows. Would be interesting to talk to some of the assembly line workers who worked at the St. Louis plant in the 60's, could probably tell us all a few tales!;)

I'm pretty sure JohnZ could tell us more than a few tales. We'll just have to sit him down and pour some scotch into his glass.... :D

A good, strong Hummer works best - that's Kahlua, Rum, ice, and vanilla ice cream into the blender, comes out nice and thick, leads to major relaxation and memories of "the good old days" at St. Louis-Corvette in the summer; 98 degrees, 98% humidity, sweating like a pig, no ventilation or air moving at all, fiberglass dust everywhere....some things are better remembered than experienced. :D :drink

John,

Have the lawsuits for premature death and/or illness due to working environment (fiberglass dust) started yet?

Not that I know of :eyerole . When I'd get out of there at night after a 14-hour August day, stopping for a drink was #2 on my priority list - #1 was getting back to the hotel for a SHOWER :) . THEN it was time for :beer

I like the look of your drink, JohnZ. I'm going to have to try that out. What would you need ice for? Isn't the ice cream cold enough??

Back in my youth, I worked as a bouncer and did a few turns behind the bar as well. I invented a shooter which I called the "Kilt Lifter" which was a variation of the time-tested "B52" (a layered shooter made with Kahlua, Bailey's & Grand Marnier) by substituting Scotch for the Grand Marnier. It still ended up layered but had a remarkably different taste.

There are lots of "spiced-up" Hummer recipes, but the "classic" Hummer works like this (adjust for taste and texture):

1 shot Kahlua

1 shot Light Rum

5-6 scoops premium genuine Vanilla ice cream (not low-fat stuff)

1/2 banana (sliced)

Add ingredients in a blender, start mixing on low speed, gradually increase speed until the mixture is blended and smooth. Result is thick and smooth like a good milkshake, pour into a large goblet, use a large-diameter straw and enjoy :drink

Thanks, JohnZ! For my next barbeque party, I'm gonna give this a try!
