C2 Coupler / Rag Joint question

The replacement differs from the original in two obvious ways:

1. The ground strap is absent.

2. The plastic bumpers(?) are different.

The plastic (red) on the new one has a lip that folds down on the outside perimeter of the unit. The plastic (black) on the old one does not.

Why the difference? Anyone know?
