My 64 was inherited from my grandfather and then my father, Grandad painted it black, Dad kept it black as well. The paint code is 940AA, which I think is Satin Silver.

My question...what is the light pea green color I see when I removed my instrument cluster and glove box, this color is also behind the kick panels. Is this green some sort of weird primer used when it was built, or does it mean it was a green car at some point?

It is going for paint August 7th and I am still on the fence what color I should paint it. My heart says black as that is what Grandad wanted, but part of me wants originality, but is original Satin Silver or this weird green?

It's primer.
I thought the same thing last year when I pulled mine apart.
It looked like most (if not all) of the birdcage on mine had that green primer.

SAE makes the same identical primer used back them in spray can. Its called "Light Green" Etcher Primer.

Still can be purchased, and SAE makes and EXCELLENT trim black paint for all your interior.

That is Zinc Chromate primer, which is an excellent rust proofing primer and it sticks well to steel and aluminum. It is (was) used extensively in the aircraft industry. The current versions of it are a slightly darker green.
