What are the steps?....looks a bit crowded in there.......do you try to go in through the glove box? Radio panels?

thanks!

When I was working on my stereo system I went in by removing the side panel on the passenger side.glove box liner, and then the clock. It give you all the room in the world.clock is held in with clips(use caution removing the clocks light bulbs you kinda have to SNAP/TWIST The bulbs out) dont just pull on the wire.and the speakers is held in place with 4-5/16th nuts. What are you doing for a replacement speaker?

Not sure.......my radio works fine......the speaker is shot......not sure that I want to do anything fancy.....yet.
Any suggestions?

thanks!

If you have the stock radio, Long Island Corvette sells a speaker for about $30 that has the required transformer and a decent size magnet. When I asked Charles Siegfried who is repairing my 65 radio LIC was his suggested source for a correct (from an electronic standpoint) speaker. It is my understanding an off the shelf standard car speaker will fry the electronics in the radio.

I had the cluster out, glovebox out radio out clock out you name it and the biggest problem I ran into when putting in the speaker was the defroster ducting. Loosen it up as much as possible and the speaker willslip right in from the glove box side.

Dave65 is correct. Make sure to use the correct speaker that has a transformer included.

It's a similar situation to the old stereo sets that would blow if you ran them without speakers attached. Things were pretty basic back then.

I know on my 63 the duct for the defroster split, came out with 3 screws, not sure if they changed for your year or not. gave me an extra 4 or 5 inches anyway.

How much more difficult with factory air? Seems to be a lot of extra ducting in there!

What is Behind the Dash

The pictures below show what you will find behind your dash. There a seven nuts that hold the speaker (4) and the defroster duct (3). Three of the studs are attached to the dash (2 speaker & 1 defroster duct) and four are part of the grille cover (2 speaker & 2 defroster duct).

I do remember how I got the speaker out because I was taking the enitre car apart. It should be fun though:) good luck
