Is it possible to get the vent-window glass out of the support without drilling rivets.

I want to replace the weatherstrips.

On a convertible I believe so. But on the coupe, I'm sorry to say no as best as I recall. I've done both, and as best as I remember, the bottom post on both the coupe and the convertible passes thru the rubber weatherstrip. The only way to get the frame out on the coupe is to remove the upper rivet and pull the frame upward after unbolting it from the regulator. The convertible upper post is different, as I recall can be released by dropping down the vent window assembly enough to disengage it.

It's not much of a job to re-rivet the top hinge point, and correct rivets are readily available. Hope this helps!!

On the driver side of my coupe, we replaced the rubber with the window in place (i.e., we did not drill the hinge pivot rivet to remove the vent window). I used a razor blade to slice the inside of rubber where it surrounds the T post that connects to the regulator. Figured it wouldn't leak from the insdie and the cut is for all practical purposes invisible. I believe we used a little black RTV (silicone) sealer in the slice. Thought that was better than drilling a good pivot rivet. Not a perfect solution but it worked for us.

P.S. Use a little Sylglide or some other lube to help you insert the rubber into the channel in the vent window assembly frame and remove the small screw at the top of the frame (window channel side) to make it alittle easier to start the insertion at the top.

Dave - GREAT article on midyear door and window hardware restoration/replacement in the current "Restorer" magazine; lots of great tips and excellent photographs! :beer
