Yeah - in the sheetmetal cars it's fiberglass - go figure.

It makes the parts nearly impossible to reproduce at other than incredible cost, and it makes finding junk yard sheet metal in good condition nearly impossible.

PS The aluminum tape over fiberglass wrap is my idea of being better than the factory crap that looks like play dough and sticks like crap. The blue rubber plug on the end of the underdash vacuum control is needed to make the LIC repop valve work, since as received from LIC, it will not pull the water valve open due to leakage in the vacuum control.

The hose pic was taken before disassembly/rebuild so I would know how to reinstall. The STV was bagged (along with a rebuild kit) in favor of a 67 POA valve - 20 years ago. The system still runs on r12.

If I could get my hands on a rotted one, I think I could dismantle it and make a reproduction. I have yet to see anyone selling one in good or bad condition.

I sold a set up a couple of years ago. I went to junkyarddog.com to find corvette junkyards - then spent a week on the phone to locate pieces.

The trick is: when the yard worker on the phone says no - ask if they know anyone who might have parts. That worked for me.
