This part was floating around the headlight switch.
When I remove the dash I saw it there.
It has a sliding lever with I believe 4 settings.

I have tried to look in the manual for it... but I was unsucessful.

Can anyone identify it & its use.

Mystery Part

If you can Ill send you some cookies.

Patience please...

So I am going to assume that is the windshield wiper switch.

Where does it mount?
Does that switch assembly control anything else?

I have already pulled my wipers, motor, & vac lines.
What I want to do is remove all "unnecessary" components... so I need to know what this is.

There are like 10 wires sticking out from the back.
Can I remove all of those wires too?

THANKS!!!

Where do I send the cookies???

:confused

It mounts in the dash, above the light switch.

The switch controls the wiper/washer control box, in the pass. side rear compartment (big plastic/metal box w/ a bunch of wires)

This knob controls wiper, delay & washer.

And this bezel goes around it:

The box indeed has about 10 wires or so, .. do you completely want to remove the wipers/washer??? confused here.

:Twist

I have a "custom" dash and there is no provision for this switch.
I am missing the switch "cover" with the pretty little controls knobs.

I do not need the washer either.

What is the "wiper/washer control box" - I dont see a big metal box with wires in any rear compartment

I want to permanently remove the wiper system.
My dash is already out and I am working on removing the A/C & heating components as well.
While Im in there I might throw in some aftermarket gauges.

But my goal is to eliminate everything I dont need/will never use.

I wont drive this car in the rain... neither will I need A/C or a heater because of my location.

The box is under the inner liner, remove that. It's bolted to the metal section behind the seats. You have to do some probing inside there. It will probably be there.

The switch is normally installed here: (left side of steering wheel .. and yes, I don't have the bezel on it in that pic either)

So I can pull out the switch & the wires & the box in the back?

Is the wiper/washer control box in plain view when you open the compartment door?
Or is it basically under the carpet in the back?

Cookies are on its way... but do you have to pay customs for them?

Twinnie

Do you have any dyno sheets on your car?
Or at least approx HP/TQ #'s

Whats your top speed?

Hahaha, no I won't have to pay customs on cookies hehehe :) .. uinless they're over 50$ or so ;)

I don't have any dyno #'s on my car, in fact I don't even have a complete car anymore.

Here's the current state, this is all that is in 1 piece:

The top speed w/ the modified cross fire injection was about 150mph but that's scary with the front end getting loose.

How sad you killed it.
That looks like my garage.

:D :D :D

If you open the rear compartment box there's a plastic liner (black) inside it. Pull that out and there will be all kinds of boxes and wires there (windshield wiper/washer, electric antenna relay.. and so on.. depends on accessories)

You can just disconnect them, just make sure there's no hot wires left.

I didn't kill the car, I'm rebuilding it. Someone rearended me and I was fixing that, then I noticed a door hinge was busted and I got the "while I was in there" bug and pulled the entire thing apart. I'm going as far from stock as I can (twin turbo's, 6 speed, modifed rear and front suspension, weight reduction by removing misc. crap, 16"x12" wheels, Wilwood Integra6 front and Integra 4 rear brake calipers...... and so on)
In that pic my garage is actually clean :) Usually there's a lot of stuff piled up here & there.

I may be wrong, but I think at least here in Tx., the wipers have to work to pass safety inspection. I wouldn't throw anything away. Jerry

I do believe that I heard there was a change in the C3 wiper system, sometime after 1979.

Best bet for removing the wiper components would be to get a wiring diagram, and trace back from the switch (or any other component that you can recognize)

I do believe that Jerry is right about wipers being required by many (most? all?) state's safety inspections...

Joe

California does not have a "safety inspection"
It is however against the law to drive without them.

But lucky for me it only rains maybe 20-30 days a year.

Oh... and its too late... I already tossed them.

;)

Im retracting my info....
Im Not sure what that is regulating.
