C4 advantages over C5?

I'm new here but if I can jump in?

I own an 87. I love the feel, the aggressive look and the handling. Hard to get in and out of and i'm in and out of mine sometimes 20-30 times a day. By the end of the day, the quads feel like they've had a decent workout.

Once inside, I feel at one with the car. I tell people, once you're in, you're in and you're there for the duration!

Love the SOTP feel and cornering of the C4.

I've driven several C5's.

I like the aggressive look, sleek but angrily all business from just about any angle. Much easier to get in/out of. Easier to find aftermarket parts, and overall, much smoother for those long runs.

If I were going to buy something to cross country in, I'd go C5 hands down, although soon, I plan on doing some long haulin' in the 87.

If I were buying something with a lady in mind, I'd go C5 again for the hands down ease of entry and exit while maintaining a modicum of modesty::)

If it were a DD with one or 2 entries and exits a day...especially for a college kid, I'd probably go with the C4 and save some $$ for repairs/mods (or learn to do them yourself...you'll have to eventually).

Either way, C4 or C5, you can't really go wrong:beer

Shadow, well put:upthumbs I totally agree:beer

Being 18 you'll probably find the insurance is a little cheaper on a C4, but it's still going to hurt. ;) Good luck on your search, Tim
the repair costs and the insurance more expensive on a C-4 are higher than a C-5 because the C-5 has bolt on fenders and a MUCH cheaper to replace hood. i found this out from my insurance company when i bought my first C-5.

Main thing I hear re: C4vsC5

C4 has the raw horsepower feeling when you drive it. You feel the road and the car..

C5 is refined and luxury. The AC works consistantly. Its still fast as ****, but you don't feel it as much as you do in a C4

Hope that helps

I agree. My '88 had more 'road feel' than my '02. I really like the C4 clamshell. I think that is cool.

I cant say anything that hasnt been said but to me C5 IS A BETTER CAR, dont kid your self.
I like the looks of the C4 but its a toss up, every year vette has its good side and not so good side.
Dont no if ill buy another vette or not but i still dont see anything out there for the money and bang that beats it yet.

Some people (including me) think the C4 is a MUCH better looking car. That is the only advantage. and the ENGINE and DRIVE TRAIN PARTS are FAR CHEAPER

I love them both, but for my daily driver it was a matter of comfort and ease of ingress-egress because of chronic back problems. The C5 is easier on my back, particularly on trips.

It's a shame too, because that cockpit, wraparound feel and tighter suspension I loved in the C4 was the very reason I had to make a change.

So true, Jane Ann. I love the feel of my C4, once I get into the darn thing!

I have had back problems, too, but not as severe as yours. So I will put up with the getting in and getting out for a while.

The C4 lines are just beautiful! Even when they rounded out the bumpers, they retained the flow.

SAVE THE :w

Thanks, Jane Ann!

Now, all I have to do is take some new pics and post 'em! :L

After 6 Vettes my SO and I owned a pair of C4's. Then I drove a C5. Now we have one of each. Love them both for different reasons. Have had both on several long trips and you'd be surprised how comfortable they are. Don't think we'll sell either of them, they can be an addiction (See Corvetttes Anonymous-we have a problem!). Drive them both, see which one you like best and which fits your pocketbook. Sounds like you are beginning a life-long affair, as mine has been, and I have no regrets-only great memories.
