Just bought a 93 C4 Convertible in great shape with only 50K on it. Very Happy:_rock I want to put a Cd/Mp3 changer in it, but my only question is where?!
There is space behind the seats, but that is pretty vulnerable when I have the top down. Any suggestions? Has anyone put one in a convertible?
All help would be appreciated!

Welcome to the :CAC

Can't really help you as I'm still running the stock BOSE system but I'm sure someone will chime in soon...

I think my Bose is starting to go so I may too be looking at some other options soon. I'd definetly like an MP3 player.
I don't see myself ever buying a changer, number one we're already short on space with the vert and two it's easy pickins if you leave your top down while parked. Also, I think just about everyone I have ever known with a changer has had nothing but trouble with it.
I'd just stick with a head unit, especially if you go with an MP3 player. You'll get about what 150-160 songs on a single Cd anyway? That kinda eliminates the need for a changer IMO.
Other than in the storage compartment in back, if it was small enough to fit in there it does have a lock on it, I have no clue where else you would mount a changer.

CD changer

You don't have too many options to install the cd changer. I put mine in the rear carry deck using velcro. You will need two antenna cable adapters to plug into the GM (small antenna) to a standard size antenna fitting on your aftermarket. Male to female and female to male adapters. You can purchase them at an electronics store like Circuit City, Best Buy or even online. About $12 to $15 each. The antenna and power pick up is in the compartment behind the passenger seat. There is a module there with wiring, use a VOM or test light and find the full time power and the ignition on power wires. Follow your instructions and mount the control somewhere on your console, you're in business. :v

Hmmm

Thanks for the input. I have ordered a JVC CD/MP3 changer and will go ahead and experiment with the location. I am not sure that I am thrilled about velcroing it to the back deck -- very easy pickings if you park in the wrong neighborhood. :r I would like to be able to leave the top down while I run into a store or something. Otherwise what's point in having a convertible?!
I will let you know how it works out.
Thanks!:cool

Congrats on your recent purchase (nice choice in year and body style, I might add :D).

Welcome to :CAC :)

Thanks!

Thanks for the warm welcome and the input. I was pleasantly surprised to find such a helpful community of Vette owners.

Will give you the final info on the cd changer install, but I think Bosoy2 is right, it probably will be installed on the back deck. I am just going to try and get in way in the back to keep it outta sight.
Wiring is going to be a piece of cake. The amp is right there and the adapters you need are a gm10 and a gm6 or a gm20. Available from any good car stereo place.

CD changer install

Maybe some type of matching carpet could be crafted so when you have the top down and parked you could throw over the unit and make it less conspicuous. Also place a rattle snake back there to guard the unit when you are gone. he he! :L :crazy

Hey TJ are you going on the Corvette Caravan to Bowling Green in June? We will be down in your area on June 25th for one night (about 125 Vettes) headed for BG National Corvette Museum. :v

Carpet idea is a good one -- rattlesnake even better:cool

Keep me posted on the ride. It sounds like fun.
