i've been out of vettes since 96 when i sold my 66 roadster. the wife bought a polo green 92 roadster with 13k on the clock a couple o weeks ago, not tagged yet, the car is cherry and was garaged and covered by the original owner. ? is how can i clean the normal road dirt off the engine without causing the distributor to take a dump. i've heard the seals are for crap. how long do they normally last before leaking?what about spraying the area with wd-4o then using mild degreaser on the rest on the engine? regards-z

Just be real careful around the Opti. It is general consensus that you should be careful and probably cover the opti and not spray water directly on to it. Keep it dry. Several say they use a hand sprayer/degreaser and clean small portions at a time to keep from frying the opti.

The OptiSpark does not like getting wet - especially on a 92.

When I cleaned the engine on my ex 92/96, I used a bucket of water and Simple Green, a rag and bottle brush and I cleaned it very carefully and a little at a time. I also kept my air compressor near by and blew the excess moisture off the engine regularly.

If you do get the Opti wet - the engine will try to start but backfire and sputter - get your hair dryer or hot air gun out and blow/heat the Opti for 30 - 45 minutes before trying to start it again.
