Maybe c4c5 specialist will see this or others in the know--Specs for the c5 is a 78 Pro series battery with 120RC--my question is this--If i use a red top optima with only 90RC and keep it on a charger/maintainer when car is not driven--would this be ok? Or do you still need the bigger battery? thx:beer

Welcome aboard bobby! Have you watched the videos I posted about "column lock" issue that C5's are susceptible to? There is a very good discussion about batteries there and why those specs are in place. The C5 is very reliant on electrical systems.

I have seen the videos--i understand what Paul says but he says nothing about if you keep a smaller battery on a charger/maintainer when not driving it--would this be as good as having the 120rc and not having on a charger for a week or so? I would think keeping any battery on a charger when not driving is just as good as having a bigger battery-

No, it isn't. The RC is not just for when the vehicle is static. It is also is used for accessory's with a computer controlled charging system, as the system is also monitored by amperage draw along with system voltage to control battery state of charge. Reserve capacity is the most important rating on any battery in a modern vehicle. I have no idea why you would want to use any lower RC rating than is recommended by the manufacture, but you certainly can if you want to.

OK Thx for the reply--My only thoughts are Battery Acid--But i think the batterys today are alot better made than back in the early 2000s--:beerBTW what are your thoughts about leaving my ac delco 78-6 year 120 RC pro battery on a maintainer when not driving 24/7?

I believe in battery maintainers, I always plug mine in when I park it since I never know how long it will sit. You keep a quality battery fully charged and it will be hard for it to go bad and sulfate internally. But the key is having a quality maintainer and NOT a trickle charger. I have had battery's last over 10 years this way.

I have a batteryminder model 1500--quality 4 step charger with temp compensation--I had the last steering column lock done in 2012 The recall that ended with a C--Ive had no problems but i do carry lmc5 with me just in case--i see no reason to install that device when the car is 100% in very way-BTW what charger/maintainer do you use?

I have Yuasa's that I use for all my vehicles.

THX. Is that the .900 amp wall plug in or the box like a battery tender plus? Also do you agree NOT to install the lcm5 if my car is having no problems with service column lock message? I know Paul the specialist says not to install any type of column lock device--jusy have dealer installed fix-

The Yuasa's that I have are the wall plug .750 amp units that I can run easily to each vehicle. The vehicle that I park outside has two 2 pole disconnects mounted in the front and trunk area, the rear source I paralleled to the trunk light with 5 amp fuse. Correct, do not install the aftermarket CLB if your system is working properly. Paul has documented cases where the a-mkt CLB's can cause BCM damage. I had all the recalls done on mine with the same column lock problem active, so I bought a new column lock actuator (the one actual moving part), removed the old one and tie wrapped the new lock actuator under the dash so it operates and gives the proper signal to the BCM but cannot lock the column and possibly get bent by the lock plate when the steering wheel is pulled getting in and out of the car when parked. So far so good.........:)

If you just had the dealer "fix" I would recommend you need to install the LMC5. What was the C version??????????

The C was the last of the 3 column lock fixes that dealers did--smaller ring so steering could not lock and a k harness installed --it has worked great since 2012 when dealer did the work--i believe Paul the specialist is very correct--if all the corvettes had kept there battery in good shape and charged--very few would have ever had problems-Paul says in video NOT to install any after market device--just go with dealer fix! I also now have the correct specs battery for my Z corvette--ac delco 78-pro series 700ca and 120rc--and i keep it on a maintainer when not driven :beer

Still recommend the LMC5 to get all that out of the circuits.

The old saying Dont fix it if its not broken--I do have the lmc5,which i carry in the glove box.--if the message would come up on the dic--it only happens when you start the car--i KEEP THE BATTERY charged when the car is sitting--i dont think ill ever see the message-i have faith in Paul the c4c5 specialist!! :beer
