Hey guys, first post in this forum because im selling my 82 for a c5....... Looking into a 97-99, Just getting a feel for my soon to be new home here in c5 land........ ;) any opinions on a certain year? ive seen many 98's go for around $20k and thats where I'm heading........ are there any "bugs" with the 97? since it was the intro car, didnt know if there were things gm's tweaked as time went on....... btw, anyone want an 82 with a 450hp tuned port motor with hooker sidepipes?

I was recently in the same situation wanting a 97 on up. after weeks of looking in the auto trader I finaly said screw it and got a brand new 2003 coupe. I could only find a few that had the options I wanted and colors I wanted in the used market. What I saw I was not impressed with. Example: I saw a 1998 coupe for $19,000, and went to look at it. it had 121,000 mi on it and a bullet hole in the windshield. The leather interior was in bad shape. ( if I am going to pay that much for a car I dont want high mileage and lots of potential repairs right off the bat)there are probably a lot of improvements in the later years, but there are also a lot more over engineered annoyances built into the later models such as daylight running lamps. The running lamps come on during driving whether you want them to or not.(what a stupid idea. who needs running lights on during a bright sun shiny day?) There are a lot of other stupid things like that the engineers decided was cool but did not think it through thoroughly. If you unlock the car all the interior lamps come on. (designed for women who may be scared when unlocking the car in a dark place.) That is a cool idea except they dont have an option to not use it. Me I like lights to come on when I turn them on. A warning alrm comes on if youre turn signal is on for more than 3/4 mi. Good idea to keep drivers from forgeting to turn off the turn signal on the high way after a lane change. Dumb idea because the engineers did not take into consideration the fact that some times there are long exit ramps, and yes you do need the turn signals on for a longer distance. So some times you have that annoying alarm, unless you turn off the turn signal and turn it back on again. The newer the car, the more of these annoying little over engineered things are put into the car. a lot of the things are good, but there are lots of stupid stuff too. I have a lot of projects ahead of me to get my 2003 coupe the way I want it. A lot of them will be centered around wiping out some of the dumb crap. Dont get me wrong though I love the car and am happy I did not settle for some over priced high mileage vehicle. I also have a 1991 fire bird with 138000 mi on it but I know that those are good miles where the oil was changed every 4 months, and the other maintenance was always done meticulously, because I did it myself. You never can tell with a used car how well did the guy before take care of it, and why is he trying to be rid of it.

hey buckbundy,
is that like the married with children dog?my 99 has those options your talking about,i think you can turn them off with the DIC,i like them so ive never tried, the only option i turned off was when the headlights would come on when going threw a tunnel or when it gets dark,i also like the anntena in the winshield, not 10 feet in the air,you can find good used c5s,theres not that many in hawaii and i found mine with 25,000 miles, for $35,ooo dollars a year ago, never had one problem and i go to the track quit a bit.if i was going to a new one i would wait to see the real c6, i believe those spy shots are decoys.and if nthere not i will keep my c5 for a long time.my car was a leased vehical,so it was well taken care of,i also bought the extended warrenty,i do my own work and modding, but if one of the 5 computers onboard fails it just paid for itself, later,Todd.
