2002 Torch Red Coupe
At this time of year the vette prices as a general rule tank until April but for some strange reason the dealers are asking insane prices and they are wondering why they cannot move them,

Example; the 2000 and 2002 are now going at wholesale for up to $22,000 with up to 45,000 miles and of course lower mileage vettes a couple of thou more. There is a glut of verts and there prices are only $1500 plus at best.

The wholesale prices start a lot lower but l am talking about minto ones in the right colors.

But the dealers are looking in a down market for their normal mark up and this is causing the market to become over priced.

A member of my corvette club has a top notch 04 with only 5800 miles and he is only asking $35,000 which is really realistic and in line.

To buy a vette with over 40,000 miles (2000/2001) coupe, auto, looaded is insane unless the price is under $20,000. So when you see a dealer or private party trying to sell the same years with over 75,000 miles for $25,000 or more this is nothing more then mental masturbation. And if somebody buys it they belong in the dumber then dumb club.

My 96 would be listed on a used car lot for $18,000 when it's only worth $13,000 tops wholesale and with any kind of issues $11,000 to $11,500 at best.

Well this is America the land of the free !

Off and running!

The hunt is the best part.

My C4 should be gone in a matter of days for sure.

Will keep you updated

Alan

Are these the actual "best" prices you can get after dealing? Or just the advertised prices you see?

My 99 was on the dealers website for almost $4K more than I actually paid.

My friend is also selling a silver 98 with 45k miles at Futureclassics in New Jersey, I think they advertise it for way more than he is looking for. Mint car though.

I am giving you the wholesale prices and that is for a dealers only auction where BMW, GM, Volvo and a lot more bring their cars to sell every other thursday.

They bring off lease cars, program cars and whatevers. The primo cars are taken by the dealers that handle the lease returns but they can only take so many.

There are other leasing companies like banks and financial institutions that dump their lease returns.

What l do is look at last weeks auction and see what the actual strike prices were.

Volvo brings off lease cars from as far as Calif because there is not a big market out there for Volvos and in the northeast they get more and l'm not talking about a couple hundred.

When a dealer buys on auction it's buyer beware so don't forget it, you can get a lemon from time to time. And before you bid the most important thing is where it came from.

Alan

Some of the prices I see advertised remind me of the Barrett Jackson auctions. WTF!!!???!!

On the other hand, I was very surprised by the differance between advertised prices and selling prices when I was looking for a C5.

I dont know anything about auctions, but I do know a dealer can be pretty motivated to move a "higher priced" used car that has been on the lot for weeks or months.

What color are you looking for?

What Color

Hi Warren

My first choice would be Millenium yellow and my second choice would be Torch Red.

I would pay more for a Yellow one and it must be a coupe because of my dog and an auto in case my bride wants to take it out or share driving on a long trip.

Believe me l am not looking to steal a car and will pay a fair price.

Prices:
Sold my 96 LT4 Coupe for 19,700 to a Chevy dealer about 6 months ago, I had intended on putting it on consignment but at that price ... I bought a new one (2004) last year but did not trade. The '96 was red/red with 24,300 miles. I bought it from the same dealer in 2001 for 21,000 ! Go figure ...

Really nice vettes just hold their prices.

It's really not true !!!!!!!!!!

First of all you had the right color, right mileage and l'm sure your vette was in the right condition.

And the major factor was that you had the LT4 engine. If l had the LT4 engine l would be keeping my vette.

The fact that your dealer paid you that price is mind boggling, not that it wasn't worth it.

Either he wanted it for himself like the dealer who wants to buy or l should say is going to buy my vette is going to do or he had a buyer in the wings.

I only have a LT1 and l have 50,000 miles which dosen't deserve a premium.

On a dealers lot my vette is only worth bottom line after haggling $16,000 and change period.

You did well on your sale.

Alan

I have to admit I too WAS surprised ... I was "hoping" to net 16-17,000 from a direct sale ... but I have always done well buying and selling vettes over the years (8 since 1967) ... but you are right, I take very good care of them (always garaged, no bad weather, etc, etc, etc) and buy the right colors and options ... mostly because I seem to like the popular ones ... the only time I have taken a "big hit" on vettes is buying new. But I still do better (far better) than my wife with her big SUVs .... but that's another story ...

Happy trails ...

Mike

A deal in the making !

One of my wholesale friends wants my vette for his wife and wants mine now but l hate to be without one until l pick another one up.

I will drive it to his place this week and probably say good bye to it.

Why can l do it because l know what l paid for it and l know what it's worth and the price is about $1000 over wholesale and his wife will enjoy it.

I really do not like selling cars to anybody except relatives or friends because l know what l'm selling.

And the scary part is l really do not know what l am getting.

But that's show biz !!

Alan

Got a super low mileage 2001 coupe (17K miles) in showroom perfect condition. Kelly Blue Book said the car was worth $32,000 retail. Got it for a lot less.

To be honest some of the prices quoted seem a little low. Is it because of being the in the dead of winter??

Mike

Talk to me bay !!!!!!!!!!!

Yes that is part of it but in todays market nobody is going to make a move unless they feel that they are going to get a bargin. So if you want to get a certain amount you have to mark it up so that you can come down to what you really need.

That is why when you go into a used car dealer and see a car priced high and the salesman says maybe l can work a deal out for you and comes back with a much better price you feel that you beat him down. You didn't because you cannot beat him at his game because he knows the bottom figure that he can go to. Also the more you pay the higher his commission.

It's a game, but 90% of the people shopping for a used car fall for it over and over again.

Also the market is flooded right now and when the weather breaks the vettes will come out like flies.

My 96 Lt1 is going to a dealer for his wife because he is getting a realistic bargin because of the time of the year. I can pick up a vette at a dealers only auction but then l would never know who had it and then it's buyer beware.

I am not a dealer.

Alan

p.s. If you can l would like to see some pic's, spec's and what you need and because you are not next door what you need and forget the haggling.
I am going to buy a C5 and l am not a tire kicker.
I also have the money and do not need a loan.

Sorry l just realized that you were not selling it but just stating a fact.

Alan

Corvette Magazine hired a firm to calculate the costs of all generations. This month C5s were listed my '04 was $38,000 I am asking $35,000. I consider mine excellent. It is Arctic White/ Saddle/Cashmere the rarest color the last 3 years so far. Iwas offered $33,000 on a WORE OUT '05 with 6900 miles and turned it down. I didn't know you could ruin a car that fast. It was a DOG. No tires and the alternator was pitted as if it was under water or had been wet. This car came from South Carolina an auction. The guy acted like he would keep on going but I left. 15,500 miles on mine.

When an auction isn't a an auction ?

There are auctions through out the US that are used for outlets for all of the major car companies and rental companies and the major institutions that handle leases.

Then there are other auctions that are breeding ground for the unsavey.

The Manheim auctions owned by Cox is the one auction that all others are judged. They are located in all major areas of the country and are for dealers only.

This is the major leagues.

Your vette sounds awesome and being an 04 is more then worth your asking price. You will find vettes as old as 01's (verts) that people and dealers are asking for the same if not more.

If the magazine you mentioned is like "Magazine Corvette" then the price guide is only that, a guide. It covers too many regions conditions what options are included, who's judging the condition and what color of the exterior and interior. Who maintained it and how was it maintained.

It makes for good bathroom reading period.

We bought our 2003 Millenium Yellow Z06 July 1st, 2005. It had 3,180 miles. The dealer was asking $35,990. We had a 1994 Torch Red coupe with over 99,000 miles on it. We wound up paying $28,995. I have worked at dealerships for over 34 years and really believe that we got a great deal considering I did not work at the dealership that we bought the car at. My owner did try to buy it for me but they wanted to sell it retail. I really feel that we happened to be at the right place at the right time.

Thanks,

Donna

???????????????

When you trade in a car you never really know how you did, but the z06 was priced very well and what you were given was very fair.

So yes you did very well and good luck with your Z06

alan

It is "Magazine Corvette" but they stated they finally found an independent group to "price" these cars. Its only worth what you can get. A guy called me today wanting my car but told him I am going to wait. There aren't any like I want out there. I will not pay "new prices" that they ask for in our area( N.C.) Average weather year round is about 55 degrees and somehow my zip code raises the price on KBB.

Well, you could always put a new motor in it!:D

Then, you'd have more HP than an LT4!:upthumbs

I don't blame you though... change is good! Have fun with your C5!
