i was crusin in the vette today and this this damm guy in a GTO would not leave me alone, but before we got to a light he turned off.do you think i could of took him from 0-60??????? my c5 is automatic and is bone stock.i think his GTO was an 05, it had those ugly hood scopps.i think the 05 GTO has all c6 running gear so i think it would be close.........:lou

LS1 vs. LS2

I think it would be a close race . . .

Probably in the minority . . . but I like the looks of the 2005 GTO!

The 2005 GTO has an LS2, but thats it. (no 'running gear' shared w/ the vette) All year models have the hood scoops. It is an option to delete them. I almost got one, very nice cars. But its HEAVY. 0-60 in 4.9 13.8 in the 1/4

Would have been interesting if both were automatics. He has more HP (The LS2 engine) but has more weight.

You have a slight HP to Wt advantage - but it is so close it should be on the driver!

I've raced one. Not sure if it was an 04 or 05. We were just about even on 0-60. I always seem to run into these guys when I have my top off. I can't imagine the amount of extra drag that causes.

There's a big difference between '04 and '05 except the looks (looks like a 90's Honda...):ugh

Power to Weight distro:

GTO:
2004 - 350 h.p./365 lb-ft; ends up about 1h.p.:11.28 lbs
2005 - 400 h.p./395 lb-ft; ends up about 1 h.p. : 9.9 lbs

Corvette:
2002 Coupe A4 - ends up about 1h.p : @9.1 lbs
2002 ZO6 - ends up about 1h.p. : 8 lbs even

On average, depending on the mods on your Vette, the GTO will weigh about 500 pounds more than you, but with the '05, it would be a good race. Cruising to the car show though, it would simply come down to, "Wow, nice Vette!" versus, "how many car seats can you set back there?":beer

I agree with you there. I'm a Pontiac fan. I've owned 2 Trans Ams and 2 Grand Prixs but what were they thinking when they design the new GTO? I can never tell if I'm coming up on a GTO or a Cavalier!

Juts as an FYI a friend on a Pontiac Board I frequent has an 04 6spd stock and Ran 13.3. I would think an 05 auto could match that.

The GTO styling is like a Pregnant Roller Skate. They blew it big time.

The 2004 did not have hod scoops, I believe. The 2004 had the LS1 engine and the 2005 had the LS2. I would still take the LS1 equipped 'Vette over the LS2 GTO in the 1/4 mile.

It's funny you guys mention all of this. I'm going to get one of the LS1 GTO's in the winter and I'm part of a GTO board. They're always trying to say how they spanked an automatic C5 that had 2.59's with their LS2 6 speed that had mods.:eyerole

I posed the question one time: Okay, what if you guys raced a C5 Z06? Only one guy responded and he said he got spanked pretty good.:L

As nice as the GTO is, it still looks like a Grand Am.:L

I'm waiting for the '04's to drop down to $18K over the winter so I can get one as my work car.:D

Okay, this is getting ridiculous:

He claims to have "reeled in" a C6 Z06.;LOL
I think he had his timeline goofed up.

He said: He jumped before the light turned green and I reeled em in then he got off it immediately. His wife was shaking her fist at him.

What he meant: He jumped before the light turned green and immediately his wife was shaking her fist at him. He got off it and then I reeled em in.

Then his sig lists his car as: 04 Red/Black M6 ....K&N Intake , JBA Shorties, RWTD Tune, TB Bypass, 05 Hood & rear bumper, Custom catback, 2.5 into flowmaster 30's with black chrome tips

Now, I don't know much more than nothing about the '04 Goats, but an '04 vette ain't touching a C6 Z06. I wouldn't think his mods would have him faring much better. I can only hope he's not using ricer cumulative math to figure his presumed HP/Tq numbers based on upgrades.

I have an 02 automatic and I just recently left a GTO in the dust ,We were on a road and the fellow was all over my tail. I am pretty sure he had a stick because he was raising the front end each time he gave it the gas. We were on a roll about 20 mph I just dropped it down into to drive and pulled away.My car only has a B&B cat back on it and by no means is a race car. I really thought he was going to stick with me?

I thought these cars were supposed to be equal in performance.

one day about a week or so ago I was taking off from a light somewhat briskly when a red car alongside of me jumped on it and beat me to the next light, it was a GTO when the second light changed I gave him the rev limiter in the first three gears and showed him my tail lights ;LOL

once I hit second it was no contest.

They also have another thread on there about how much their cars weigh. Most of them were in the 3800 pound neighborhood with the driver.:ugh

That guy with the GTO must be smoking the good stuff if he thinks he reeled in an 06 Z06. He couldn't even reel in a standard Vette.
