C5 Vs Gto

That guy with the GTO must be smoking the good stuff if he thinks he reeled in an 06 Z06. He couldn't even reel in a standard Vette.

:beer

maybe he saw Z06 wheels on an automatic ;)

Those guys actually talk all the time over there about how they smoke 'Vette's and stuff like that. I'm sure some of them do but when you read their tag line and all the mods they've done, it can sound reasonable.

Well today as I am getting gas I heard a muscle car reving its motor.I turn around figuring I am going to see a some 60's muscle and there a new style GTO squaring off in the road in front of a tire shop across the street.from a dead stop he nails it and no tire spin or nothing he just take off as if the car was shot out of a cannon. If this is a stock gto wow they did it rite,it really is a muscle car my hats off to them.

"reeled in a 2006 Z06"?..........;LOL ;LOL ;LOL ;LOL

come on guys....505HP and how much torque?.....;LOL

I wonder just how much NOS a GTO would need to keep up to that race car called the Z06?
Car mags are comparing the stats. to cars like the ENZO.

Gimme a break..........and a Z06 :w

I noticed that a couple guys have mentioned GM missed the boat when designing the GTO. It's actually not a new design. It's a rebadged Holden Monaro from Australia. Holden is GM's division downunder. The monaro is a popular car there with a different drivetrain.

I was just at there site poking around and found a note that the car does zero to 60 in 4.6 secounds,Isnt that better than a 04 ZO6?

Pontiac lists performance as 6.0s to 60 and 13.9 in the 1/4 mi. I seem to recall 4.6 was stock 6-sp vette time and the C5 Z06 was closer to 4.2.

They also list the curb weight of the GTO as 3725.

Gorgon is right, the math just doesn't add up. Now I'm no engineer or a mechanic but I just don't see how a car that weighs 3850 (on the conservative side with a driver) with 350 HP can "reel in" a 3100 pound Z06 with an under reported 505 HP. And let's not even get into tire size, gearing or aerodynamics...

Some of those guys must be smokin' the good stuff because it has them believing.:L

This is likely a case of mistaken intent. The Z06 driver may have taken off in a spirited fashion that was by no means WOT and full acceleration, giving the GTO driver a sense of "reeling him in" with some gas. Had the Z06 actually been trying the only reeling that would have been done would be the GTO driver's mind from the shock and awe. :)

When the new Goats first came out I ran across one. It was late at night and I was coming on to the interstate ... I just love the way a C4 merges into traffic ;) ... anyway I guess the guy didn't like being shown the back end of an "old C4". I merged onto the I at 80 a few seconds later he comes blowing by me at over 100 I would guess. When he went by I realized what it was and noticed he slowed down and got over into my lane. I continued cruising along and "reeled him in" :L. He slowed even more and as I got next to him he punched it ... well just to let him know ... so did I. I hung right next to him and eventually pulled away. For about the next 30 miles he would play swap the lead. I wasn't that impressed with the '04 Goat since a C4 with factory rated 245 HP hung right there with him. The funniest thing was after the 30 or so miles I guess he got tired of playing and ran off, I had the cruise control set at 80 and a few minutes later I see the Goat on the side of the road with a SC trooper behind him lights a flashing. :D

You list in your avatar section that your car is "gone but not forgotten". You got rid of your car since CruiseFest? And I don't recall you being stock under the hood... ???

i was crusin in the vette today and this this damm guy in a GTO would not leave me alone, but before we got to a light he turned off.do you think i could of took him from 0-60??????? my c5 is automatic and is bone stock.i think his GTO was an 05, it had those ugly hood scopps.i think the 05 GTO has all c6 running gear so i think it would be close.........:lou

I ran across one on the highway that wanted to play. As he pulled up next to me and gunned it. I floored it and left him like he was standing still. I kept going till he was totally out of sight. It was fun to see him smiling as I flew passed him.

I think he had his timeline goofed up.

He said: He jumped before the light turned green and I reeled em in then he got off it immediately. His wife was shaking her fist at him.

What he meant: He jumped before the light turned green and immediately his wife was shaking her fist at him. He got off it and then I reeled em in.

Then his sig lists his car as: 04 Red/Black M6 ....K&N Intake , JBA Shorties, RWTD Tune, TB Bypass, 05 Hood & rear bumper, Custom catback, 2.5 into flowmaster 30's with black chrome tips

Now, I don't know much more than nothing about the '04 Goats, but an '04 vette ain't touching a C6 Z06. I wouldn't think his mods would have him faring much better. I can only hope he's not using ricer cumulative math to figure his presumed HP/Tq numbers based on upgrades.

Yeah, here's another one from that same thread:

2005 Impulse Blue M6 GTO 342whp / 348wtq <Stock> 13.3 @ 105.4 on STREET tires!

He must have had one hell of a 60'

Those times and trap speeds seem close to correct for 342 RWHP and the weight of a GTO. My Z06 would have roughly that at the rear wheels, and I run mid 12's at up to 6000' density altitude.
