Goodmorning,

I just noticed a water leak on my 2001 Vette. I'll do the best i can to describe it...hopefully someone here had the same problem and can offer a solution:

If you sit in the car and look up.....you see a black piece of molding that runs across the width of the car. ITs located just to the rear of the roof panel. It is held in place by a few plastic clips. Actually, the roof panel (pins) go thru this piece of plastic. On the passanger side (just above the rear speaker) the upper moulding meets the side moulding....The water is dripping out of the point where the two pieces of plastic meet....and onto the rear passanger speaker....I opened the rear hatch and the moulding looks ok...the car only has 8000 miles on it...

i greatly appreciate any insight.....Thanks....Mike

Possible Cause
The forward edge of the roof weatherstrip rolled rearward when the roof was installed blocking the weatherstrip drain trough.

Diagnosis
Visually inspect the weatherstrip for the front edge showing (only the smooth rear edge of the weatherstrip should be showing).

Corrective Action
Remove the roof panel and reinstall the roof panel without rolling the forward edge of the rear seal rearward.

Possible Cause 1
Stripped screw on the front side of the rear roof bow outer trim panel.

Possible Cause 2
Strip caulk around lift window hinge studs not sealing properly.

Diagnosis 1
Check the roof bow trim screws and determine if one is stripped and not sealing properly.
Perform a local water test on the rear of the roof at the roof bow weatherstrip.
Diagnosis 2
Perform a local water test on the rear roof bow at the lift window panel.

Corrective Action 1
Remove the roof panel.
Remove the stripped screw.
Fill the stripped screw hole with windshield sealant.
Allow the sealant to firm up then install the screw (the screw is not under a load it just fills the hole).

Corrective Action 2
Remove the rear lift window panel.
Install strip caulk around the hinge studs.
Install the rear lift window panel.

HI there,
While you can follow the cut and paste bulletin listed above, I would suggest a different course of action.
You can simply remove the panel, after you remove the glass top.
Remove the 4 retainers, and the panel will pop down.
Then, reinstall the top, and sit inside.
Just run water from a hose over the area where the rear top sits, and see what you have.
Allthebest, c4c5:hb

thanks for all the help......i took off the roof panel, and i noticed the lip of the weatherstripping wasn't seated properly. Im hoping that was the cause. I appreciate the technical expertise.
regards, Mike
