Rob,

I imagine the insurance on the ZR must be pretty hefty as well! And doesn't it have an 8 quart motor oil capacity?
Yeah it is. I pay just over $1,000 per year with full coverage, $500 deductibles, clean driving record....and I'm 35 years old.

The LT5 engine holds approximately 12 quarts of oil, but you can only get about 8 1/2 quarts of oil out because the rest of it is trapped in the engine oil cooler, related lines, and various oil passages built into the engine block. A typical oil change usually costs:

1 qt. of Mobil 1 synthetic 10W30 = $4.29 x 9 quarts = $38.61 + $10.00 Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil Filter = $49.00 / oil change. The price of oil changes really isn't a concern of mine though. Before I bought the ZR-1, I made a promise to myself and that was: I would give the car the very best care I possibly could - financial or otherwise. If I wasn't capable of doing that - then, and only then would I sell it to someone that could.

Although I don't have a Zr1 king of the hill classic I can relate to enjoying my present ride a few more years at the very least..

Maybe down the road...I'll grab a C6 Z06 but till then...I'll be enjoyin my existing Corvette.

So figure......Down the road ..maybe!

Rob,

At first, I didn't think $1,000 a year was too bad. But then I thought about how you probably only buy insurance for 8 months while I was thinking that was for 12 months. Factor in that you have a clean driving record and you're 35, that is pretty expensive for insurance!

9 quarts of synthetic can get expensive but it's something that the car deserves.

I understand how you feel. I feel that way towards many of my inanimate objects. Thing is, only we understand. You try to explain your love of a car to someone and they look at you funny!:L:L:L

As for me getting a C6 Z06, it won't happen for a long time. I would be very happy with a C5 Z06. I'm happy with the 88' right now but I just have this yearning for more and more horsepower.:L

Ya know, I can totally relate to that. One can never have too many horses in one's stable. :L ;)

My wife keeps asking me, "How fast does it need to go?" I tell her, "If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand." ;)

BTW: My Z is torn down currently @ "Dynotech" getting AFR heads, T-trim blower upgrade and a few other goodies. Looking for 650 + at the wheels.

Enough..... there ain't no such thang!!:D

That's what I say to people when they ask me why I want another guitar.:L

That sounds pretty awesome. How long will it take for them to get it back to you? Are they going to dyno it at the end?

Should be in the next three or four weeks. They'll dyno tune it, and get a final set of numbers when it's all dialed in. It made 606/502 after the cam with the S-trim. The more efficient T-trim should help torque down low. The cr will end up being < 10-1 with the new heads so they can up the boost a bit.

I hope the weather holds up so you can take her out.

How much boost are we talking here?

Do you get the LS6 heads back or is that traded in as some kind of core? You could definitely defray some of the costs by selling those LS6 parts. I'm sure a lot of LS1 guys use them in their cars.

I have a feeling that you're going to go through rear tires in record fashion:L

I'm figuring the engine alone will add $20,000 to the base. Add in the bigger wheels/tires, upgraded clutch, carbon fiber parts, etc and I bet you've got $25-$32k over a base C6 coupe.

I'm thinking between 8 and 9 pounds. I had the LS1 pulley set on it with the S-trim so it was blowing 7.5 lbs. in that configuration. The tune is the most important factor with a fi engine. Phil @ Dynotech is a master with force feeding these cars. I'll be getting the stock heads back so they'll be fs very shortly.
