C6 Aftermarket exhaust

As I anxiously await my C6 convertible and hear/read that others feel the car is a little too civilized, I will likely have an aftermarket exhasut system installed. Any opinions on Corsa (GM licensed) vs Borla (recommended by John Lingenfelter) would be helpful. I live in Illinois, where noise restrictions are not a concern. The weather here also makes the winter-long wait for the C6 almost bearable! Thanks.

check out borla website...looks to me like they are using a cross flow side ways mounted muffler similar to C5 design. The mufflers are placed in what appears to be contact with each other....I wonder about heat build up with this arrangement. I think Corsa the way to go unless you REALLy really like the C5 exhaust arrangement. I like the proprietary design of corsa ....seems that they actually have some new ideas and a scientific approach to making a muffler.

I've had both Borla & Corsa exhaust systems, they're both good. The Borla was on an LT1 and the Corsa is on my current LS1. The Borla exhaust was quite a bit louder.

I'm not quite the noise volume freak that I used to be, so Corsa is probably the 1 I'd go with. I'm pretty sure some C6 owners will reply soon.

New C6 owner, Got Corsas

This is my first post on this forum but am eager to share any information I have regarding the C6. Have a coupe and wanted to change the exhaust because I thought the stock ones were to timid. Went online and had to decide between mainly the Borla and the Corsa. I wanted an aggressive sound but did not want to deal with any resonance at certain speeds. I also wanted to be able to listen to my XM radio when I drive at times (although listening to the engine and exhaust is also music to me). I finally decided to go with the Corsa because of their claim regarding just these matters. I am very happy with my decision and recommend that if you do go with Corsas go with the sport version of the pipes, not the touring version. At idle the sound is quite deep and anyone would know that you don't have the factory exhaust on it. On mild acceleration they a just loud enough to let people know you're coming but not obnoxious. Step on it and they will scream. On the highway the interior noise is just slightly louder than stock but you can still carry on a conversation or listen to your radio if you like. The also have a nice burble when you let off of the gas which I really like. Not to mention that they are beautiful to look at and are very well made and easy to install. Hope this helps. Smitty

Corsa made the C6 exhaust for the Vette. So when you buy a C6, you are getting Corsa technology. Of course, they are not their aftermarket, great sounding ones.

The sound bites are up on the corsa website now. I have listened to them a number of times. I hope to get my C6 soon and will most likely order some new pipes hopefully at the time I pick up my vehicle.

Smitty seems to have a very similar car to the one I am going to order soon. I just don't understand why you prefer the Sport over the Touring. The Touring sounds a whole lot deeper to me.

Also, did you order the 4" single pipes or the twin 3.5" ? The 4" pipes look cool on their website.

The Sport does seem louder, though. I read that the Sport system can be installed and if it's too loud (or not deep enough I guess), then the cross pipes can be installed which convert the system to touring. I doubt you could do the reverse and not waste money...

I went for the sport exhaust because I wanted some sound to the pipe at normal engine rpm's and to me the tourings were just no loud enough. As it is the sports are not as lound as other exhaust systems but do sound aggressive enough. The nice thing is that they don't resonate within the cabin and still allow you to carry on a conversation with someone. I feel the sound at idle is quite deep although the crossover pipe may make it deeper by keeping the exhaust noise within the exhaust itself.

As for the tips I went for the quad tips because I though the duals would not fill in the space beneath the rear adequately, but I guess that's a matter of preferance.

Checked out the C6 perf. buildup link. Pretty neat. Liked the 1/4 mile runs of a stock C6 though times not as good as stated by factory. But the car was not really broken in yet. Anyone know the results of the C6 vs C5 Z06 matchup? Looked pretty close but hard to tell. thanks for the info

Those videos were filmed by me, including the one in the car - The car (C6) ran a best that day of 13.0 with a follow-up later in the month of 12.8 in the 1/4
The 2001 Z06 was a couple car lengths behind at the finish -

FWIW, the C6 had 900 miles on it at Beech Bend that day - it was one week old :cool

They both sound cool, don't get me wrong. But the Touring to me sounds much deeper than the Sport. The Touring sound like American muscle cars of old and the Sport kinda sound like Japanese cars suped up. At least that is the way it sounds online to me.

I like the deeper sound. Have you heard them both in real life?

I have heard both Corsa sounds in real life and would have to say that the touring has a little lower sound than the sport but to me was not loud enough. I felt as if most of the sound was staying within the system and not making its way out. The sport in no way sounds like one of the those sodacan mufflers on those Japanese cars. It's deep, throaty during acceleration and burbly during idle and deceleration (the way a V8 should sound). Those sound bytes on the Corsa web site don't do it justice because I don't think my pipes sound that way. I know that this is just my opinion, but if you're really wavering then the best thing to do is try and hear them in person. Smitty

Sounds

Seems the only consensus is that the stock mufflers are just too too quiet. I concur and that is the only down side I have found in my C6. I guess I will call my dealer to see if (when) they will have both systems installed so I can hear them both. What was GM thinking? A Vette needs to sound like a Vette.

Has anyone opened and removed insides of stock C6 mufflers to increase sound levels? Or is this a bad idea? It would be less expensive than a new system.
