Latest: It appears the assembly line is going again. But, we are still gathering info from sources on the 6-speed trans issue and delivery delays.

The C6 line is back in full production as of this morning and running all cars, including manual transmissions. The MN6 cars may be held for QC, but all else is back to normal. They should reach over VIN 5200 today. Information from Kevin Torrance at the plant.

Corvette Assembly Plant Employee Hotline
(UPDATED: 8:20a CST 10/7/2004)

According to the Corvette Assembly Plant Employee Hotline:
PRODUCTION *WILL* RUN ON THURSDAY OCTOBER 7th, ALL EMPLOYEES ARE TO REPORT AT THEIR NORMAL REPORTING TIME.

From the Assembly Plant Tour Office
(UPDATED: 8:00a CST 10/7/2004)

They state that there are assembly line workers today, that it's business-as-usual, and there will be tours at 9am and 1pm today! She was aware of the problems yesterday but is not aware of any problems today. I am confirming this with other sources now, so hang in there!

(UPDATED: 5:30P CST 10/6/2004)

The R8C museum deliveries are not cancelled, but we have postponed the deliveries of the C6 Corvette 6-speed for next week until we hear more on the problem with the 6-speed transmissions.

We will deliver all of the automatics next week and any automatics in the future once the line starts up. The assembly line had something break and they sent workers home today and they will not report tomorrow.

Once the mechanical problem on the line itself is corrected, my understanding is they will continue to build automatics.

Any Corvettes with automatic transmissions that have been built will be delivered at the NCM once we can get them from Allied.

UPDATED: From Rick Conti

There is what they believe to be a problem with the 6-speed manual transmissions. It's my understanding from speaking with the NCM that a new truckload of transmissions are on the way to Bowling Green, KY - hopefully by Friday afternoon.

This appears to be a short term problem and I will keep you informed with the latest info on this issue.

Of course with the entire line down...yes it effects the production of the automatics too, no Corvettes are being produced at this time.

How does this affect existing 6-speeds already delivered...good question! We are in touch with General Motors and will continue to update you with the latest information.

Sorry for the news folks, but this is the real side of retail production....just so happens it's on a car America loves so very much!

This thread is a little confusing/misleading because it mentions two problems:

1. A problem with the 6-speed transmissions.

2. Something broke on the assembly line forcing the line to shut down and sending workers home.

From what I was told, the actual problem is NOT on the assembly line itself. There is a problem with the 5th gear synchronizer(s) in the 6-speed trans.

I heard the same as Rob, no problems on the assembly line. The problem is in the transmissions.

Remember when the "new" 1997 C5's were embargoed at the plant due to defective suspension parts?
