My new C6 arrives next week (on it's cross country train ride now) and when it arrives I plan to put on custom wheels and non-run flats.
Question: What do you think the 4 stock wheels and run-flat tires that come with the car be worth if I sell them? Thanks for the input!!!! :D

What's The Plan?

Rocky,

I'm always interested in what people do when they give up their run flats and have no spare. Are you going with a tire inflation kit or are you just playing the odds. If you're just playing the odds than I can guarantee that you'll cut a tire at 2:30 in the morning, 400 miles from home with Mrs. Rocky in the car.

I carry a small compressor that works off the cig. lighter and has a long hose. Carry a can of fix-a-flat and if it's a puncture that will get me to the garage. If not, then a tow truck which I pay for anyway in car ins. So far, so good but of course I'm always playing the odds. These new RunFlats are supposed to be better than in 2001 and 2004 which I hated..too noisy, too hard,(skipped on large bumps on curves or straightaways). If these are better, and they claim them to be, then I might keep them and just change the wheels....:) :D

I call AAA on the cell phone which I consider to be my spare. The air compressor and can of sealant sems to be a good idea, but i have never heard anything good about that stuff.

If I was to be in an area that a towtruck could make it within a reasonable time, I will also call them....but I drive the desert alot (110-120 degrees sometimes) and it would be easier to put in fix-a-flat can which has the compressed air in it already to help get to a garage.
It's a personal choice. I've had shops that don't want to repair any "Z" rated tires because of the speed it might to called upon to do and they don't want to deal with the liability if a "plug" didn't work right, but if a runflat gets a puncture...same situation...

Good point about the desert. Fortunately, there aren't any near me in Georgia.

Have you decided on a price yet?
I might be interested.

It is my understanding that the new Porsche Boxster does not come with a spare, does not have EMT tires, but does come with a compressor and a can of fix-a-flat. I would not feel very comfortable with that setup at all.

Was on the interstate (I95) in Maine going the speed limit plus :) 5 years ago in heavy "going home" traffic with my first C5. Felt something, but didn't think anything of it. About that time, the sensor stated I had no air in the right front tire.

If I didn't have the run flats, I would have ruined the tire, wheel and maybe much, much more!!!

I slowed down to 55 MPH and got home ok ( about 45 minute drive). Went to the nearest tire place the next morning and had it repaired.

I believe in runflats.

The 02 I have now has Michelin Run Flats which are much quieter and stick to the road ten times better.
