What went down at the auction? How many went across the block and what did they bring. I thought there would some results posted by now. There was supposed to be a 91 and a 88 auctioned

I watched the 91 Series 500 Car be auctioned. It got to $40K and that wasn't enough because of the $52K reserve. There was also a Speedster auctioned off. Anyone hear it's price?

Doesn't look like the results are up yet on Mecum's site. The reserve was $52k for that 500 convertible? Wasn't it only $45k on Stoudt's website? Does the seller pay the auction fee, or the buyer?

The seller will have a auction fee. Sometimes there is a buyers premium attached so the sellers fees are less. It can be either way but they will state if there is a buyers premium. You have to be careful at auctions because there are allot of people that put bidders out there to push the bid up.

C254 1991 CHEVY CALLAWAY SERIES 500 DK RED 40,000.00

F4 1991 CHEVY CALLAWAY SPDSTER BLACK 145,000.00

Neither car sold

If my math isn't messed up, the Series 500 convertible bid would have meant a post-fees price of $37,750, so I guess that's why they didn't take it. Otherwise, I'd think $40,000 is close enough to the $45,000 price they have on the website to just take it. It sounds like the car has been consuming showroom floor space there for a while.

If they are having a problem with it consuming showroom space I'll glady let them park it in my showroom/garage!!!!

Heheh... I went to drool over cars at my local Ferrari dealership because I saw they had an F50 in the showroom (I used to drive by it everyday on the way in to work). The sales guy said they were just holding it for an owner, not selling it. At that point I offered to help them out as I lived right up the street and had a one-car garage at the time. I told him I wouldn't mind at all parking it in my garage, and I'd even keep it beautifully detailed, provided he'd leave me the keys so I could move it in and out to wash it and such... ;) Surprisingly they didn't want to take advantage of the free storage space... :confused :(

Hey, how did you know the reserve on that car was set at $52k? I thought they usually kept reserve prices a secret until the bid surpassed it?

After they closed the bidding on the car at $40k they said something like it needed $52k to sell.

I just bought an F50 yesterday and I'm needing somewhere to put it!! I think I'll probally move my Austin Martin off the shelf so I can park the F50 by my Enzo. (To bad the 3 I just named are all 1/18th scale:D )

Anyone with experience collecting 1/18th or other size cars.....

Any advice on brands for quality and longevity of the company?
How about scale....which scale size has the most selction?
Anything else I should know before atarting a collection?

I thought that there was supposed to be a 88 and a 91 there at the auction. Maybe they changed there mind. What about some of the ZR-1 prices?

I like 1:43 scale cars. I find 1:18 to be too big. I have several Minichanp cars of the Aurora GTS-1 and the Corvette C5-R. I'm no collector expert, though. I want to get one of the 2003 C5-R's from LeMans as I love that paint scheme. :w :v
