Guess the RWHP/TQ !! Carlisle Contest!

Hi everyone! What's the real world rear wheel performance specs on a "stock" 1987 Callaway Twin Turbo Corvette ? Well, let's find out! I've been very curious myself and now the time has come to find out!

Let's play like this.. everyone post their respective guesses like this:

300 hp / 475 tq
_____________________________________________

Let's say the actual peak numbers from the graph turn out to be 325hp / 525tq. What we'll do then is take your guesses and subtract them from the actuals. In other words for hp 300-325= 25 and tq is 475-525=50. (We're only taking positive integers as a result-- this way it doesn't matter if you guess high or low). From there-- add the two results together (25 + 50 = 75) So, just for numbers sake-- you were 75 points off. Again, the closer you are.. the lower the number of points. The person that guesses the closest obviously gets the least points and you WIN!! :)

A couple pointers, hints and guidelines for this contest:

1) We are looking for PEAK SAE corrected figures as generated by a Dynojet 248e. Averages are not counted and also realize that the peak numbers for both torque and horsepower occur at different rpm levels. We're not looking for an rpm pointer guess.. merely just the PEAK numbers as shown on the graph.
2) Hint- on the street this car pulls and pulls like a mutha. Neck snapping torque is absolutely phenomenal!!
3) Related to number 2- the car is stock. Yeah, yeah.. the air filter is a K&N and the lid is cut. Everything else on this car is Callaway issue and has been calibrated by their technicians to their specifications. Most updates have been done to '91 specs.
4) The cats are still in place and we aren't talkin *****. :( :D
5) Callaway has updated the turbos to the Rotomaster units.
6) No mufflers are on this car. It has the stock Callaway megaphones on it.
7) It runs 54"-55" Hg at wide open throttle in the "dyno" gear. The car does not exhibit boost creep. 93 octane was used for testing.

IF YOU WIN?? Well, you must stop by the Callaway Owner's Group display at Carlisle from August 22-24 to collect your free case of Yuengling Beer. Shipping is not available. Substitute beers can be requested-- but Yuengling is a damn good beer so let's stick to it! Don't drink and drive! Anyone is eligible to win. Tell all your Corvette friends about this!! Tell them about the CAC and Callaway! :cool

OK yuenglings, here we go again.
340hp and 470 tq

Eric, Are you looking for "Rear wheel" HP / Tqe #'s or by corrected do you mean for atmosphere??

I should have seen this post coming, as this morning on the way to work your Yuengling 18 wheeler truck was in front of me :beer

I'm taking into account that it's gonna be hot and I need all the beer I can drink.

The dynojet system compensates for environmental conditions. What is does not compensate for, however, is "heat soak". By this I mean I'm going to drive the car to the dyno and till we get it strapped down on the rollers it's safe to say that the motor compartment will still be screaming hot and the intercoolers will be smoking hot to the touch. Plus, I'm looking to obtain real world numbers too.

I've seen a 700hp Supra gain 50hp from just cooling the car off for hours-- we're not doing that, nor is my car making that kind of insane power.. so whether heat soak is an issue or not may be another topic of discussion! Some people will let their cars cool down for hours, ice the intake, spray compressed air through the intercoolers to cool everything off... none of this will be done... it'll be "wrung whatchya brung" and a real life scenario of peak hp/tq.

What I've observed with my car...

When I've dynoed the HP numbers go down and the TRQ numbers go up between runs. (This is back to back with no cool down.) The intercoolers heat soak almost instantly on the dyno. You can fry an egg on them after the first run. Interesting that from a torque standpoint the motor seems to like the heat. I'd guess that a 10% power jump under real world conditions, having air jammed into the hood blisters over the intercoolers, would not be unreasonable. You can really feel the difference on a cool night. Compound that added power with the road and tires being cold and it makes for a very interesting ride when you hit full boost in 4th and break the tires loose at over 100mph.

My guess is 370hp\580tq. If I win I promise to distribute the beer to needy Callaway owners!

I know a few people who would accept such a gracious offer! :m

Keep the guesses coming!

I guess 344rwhp and 522rwtq
Now all I have to do is win so that I have a convincing reason (for the wife) to come out to the show.

Keep the Guesses Coming!

Looks like there are some good guesses.. keep'em coming! btw.. Yuengling is touted as being the oldest brewery in North America. <-- Trivial Pursuit Question

:drink

Yuengling Lotto

369 hp/492 torque

Eric, good idea, but can I specify Yuengling Black and Tan and that it be iced down for emergency consumption by Callaway owners? See you in Carlisle.

Steve
