I got a portable battery pack for Christmas and thought I would never use it but I tried it tonight on my vette and it was great. I also have a 2/6 amp charger but I figured what the heck lets see if this works first. Started right up. My fault for low battery, I was polishing the aluminum lines for a/c and coolant and fuel rail and left the hood up and the hatch open for hours:duh It was the first weekend where it was nice outside. I was so :D I forgot the lights were on. Well the next time the hood lights are unplugged and the windows will be down. :eyerole

Glad to hear some good news! :cool

I can't tell you how many times I've done that, leaving the doors and hatch open too long and killed my battery. It's been drained so often I don't trust it anymore. That's why I'm putting a new one in now with my new Tec3 -- to ensure I have enough juice at all times. :hb

I bought and installed one of Gordon Killebrew's hood light switch kits. I too drained my battery far too often leaving the hood open. This kit splices into the wires leading to the lights and then mounts a small switch on the driver-side wheelwell (inside the engine bay). I think it was $10 - cheap insurance.

I have a switch on my lights also. I leave them off unless I need them. Guy

I'm going to do the same...thanks for the tip ;worship

When ever I was working under the hood of my C4s, the first thing I would do so I didn't forget, was to pull the fuse for the underhood lamps. It's located in the left front, for those who might not realize there is a separate mini fuse for those underhood lights.
The C5 computer shuts down power after 15 minutes.... (doors open, hood up, rear trunk, or hatch open), eliminates the low battery voltage problem for those of us who might leave things on a bit too long.

My kit's available here - <http://www.gordonkillebrew.com/pages/800740/index.htm>. Look down the page for "Hood Lamp Switch". It's worth the $10 for the instructions showing which wires to cut, plus the neatness of the installation.

Incidently, this is the guy who invented the tool to open your Vette hood if the cables break. Always worth having one of these around.

Also, VettePilot, 84-90 Vettes don't have the fuse for the lights. We can disconnect the weatherpack connectors (one per side, by the hood hinges) but they break easily...

rrubel,
Thanks for that info, I just (wrongly) assumed that all the C4 years had them because both my 91 and 93 did.
