My 87 is basically stock and will soon have the standards mods but I was thinking of maybe some head work and a cam & lifters. What would be a good camshaft and lifters that would offer better performance but is still suitable for daily driving? Any info provided is much welcomed. Thanx.

are you looking for more RPM and more Horsepower? or are you looking to really keep that low end grunt of the L98, but hop it up a bit? how much power are you looking to get, and are you looking for lower track times as well as daily driving?

you will notice that most of the mods for the L98 will increase HP, but will also increase peak HP RPM... so you tend to shift the power curve up, and make the car more LT1 like.... so, the reason why I ask the low end torque question is so you don't waste your money buying a cam that isn't what you want... I have seen L98 owners do mods that they don't like way too many times, because they wind up losing their favorite part of the L98, the torque.... so, after you give some estimates and details we can go from there:)

I'm looking for mid to top end power but something not to wild for everyday driving. Just a little more oomph when I hit the go pedal.

Go to the website for crane cams and look at the 2040...it is made specificaly for the TPI engine. They stipulate a specific rear end gearing, but I have found it really does not matter as mine with the 3:07 functions just as well.

www.cranecams.com/master/apps/chevy5.htm

just go down the list to the 2040...
