I need some help getting my 81 started. I have read many of the threads and I have tried most of the suggestions to others. What do I need to do next? I have hooked up a timelight and there is no spark. I just changed the ignition swith and still nothing. All of the componenets in the ignition, distributor, module, cap, rotor, chip are all new and worked fine until I shut it off last week. I have gotten it to start twice and then once it is shut off it won't start. The only thing I haven; looked at is the Torque converter. I called the dealer and he says there is no selonoid. I can't find one listed in any of the major corvette part books either. I took the harness off that plugs into the tranny and cleaned it and plugged it back in. This allowed me to start the car but then it shut off and won't re-start. I think this is where my problem is but I need some help. Everyone who knows nothing about 81's has there ideas but lead me down the wrong path. I need some help TODAY. Can someone please let me know what you think of this situation???? Thanks Bill

Bill,

call me

I will be happy to go over the basics, and see if we can discover what is wrong.

Does it seems to be when it's hot? My starter went not too long ago and that's what it did. Was working fine, no signs of failure, and then nothing. No sound no lights dimming or anything. My mechanic actually tried sparking the selenoid on the starter, and it didn't work. Once I let it cool down for a few hours it started. Replaced the starter and haven't had a problem since! Don't know if you have similar experiences, but thought this might help!

Bill,

It was good talking to you. I can tell you are frustrated, and I don't blame you.

My guess is the pick up in the distributor has broken down. A quick distributor replacement will test that theory out.

Good luck!

Chris

Chris,
Thanks for the help!!! I bought another module and put plenty of dielectric grease on it and it fired right up. I had a new DYNA MOD module in it that I got from Eckler's. It didn't even last 1000 miles.
I appreciate your help and expertise.

Thanks
Bill
