Hi all,

First post here at CAC. New owner of a '92 Artic White LT1 coupe. While doing some underhood maintenance a few weeks ago, I found this bracket just laying on top of the engine at the back of the intake. My mechanic had replaced the intake gaskets before I brought the car home, so I'm guessing this is something he might have forgotten to put back on. :duh

I guess I could take it back to him to have him figure it out, but he's a pretty busy guy and I just thought if I could figure out where it goes, I could just take care of it myself.

Preferably, if anyone has a reference picture or diagram showing how the bracket is mounted, that would be most sincerely appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

On the passenger side of the intake manifold, back near the firewall, you'll see a heavy electrical harness that goes through the firewall into the passenger compartment.

That piece is like a brace/hold down that holds the harness down, in place, [preventing the harness from flopping around.

The rear most intake manifold bolt should be a stud. Torque down the stud to the intake, then slide that hold-down over the stud and screw on a nut. BINGO!

I forgot this" The cup shaped end of the part is what fits over the wiring harness to hold it in place.

Hi all,

Welcome to the CAC. As stated that piece goes over the wiring harness and indeed does fasten to the last intake manifold stud bolt with a nut. Now here is the first thing you can do to get it back in place were it not only holds the harness in place but also acts as a heat shield. Put on your best uniform all spit and polish and take it back to the mechanic that did the intake manifold gaskets for you. I have done two of the intake manifold jobs in the last year and the only way to easily get to that stud is by removing the fuel rail and fuel hoses that are in the way. You can do it without doing that but when I tried it I was 3 hours of scrapped nuckles before I could get it tightened in place.

I agree with Jake and in my experience its not difficult to get to...or install....or remove. I suggest you give it a shot before running to the mechanic. I'll go out and shoot a pic in a minute.

This is on a 95 92/93 may be a little different however, I've worked on a 92 and the only PITA I remember was installing the steam pipe to the back of the heads in the car. That one almost kicked my butt.

Thanks a million folks!! Especially for the pic! It does look like a PITA to get to, but I'll give it a shot.

Just so nobody stays up all night worrying, you'll all be happy to know the bracket has been securely fastened back in its rightful place on the '92. ;)

Thanks again everyone! :CAC to the rescue!

Glad it worked out well for you. Let us know if we can help with anything else.
