I'm a newbie here, and this may be a dumb question, but can the removable hardtop be tinted safely without damaging the material. I've heard somethings like this cannot. It's not glass, this is on a 92

Thanks
Steve

I was told to never tint glass on a roof by my tint guy. The problem is the tint will shrink over time and possibly cause the glass to crack. Tint will shrink over time and if you are in a warm sunny climate like me (AZ) you will have problems. Have you checked into the spray-on tints. My dad had it done on his Volvo and it was good stuff. Just a thought.

Actually I have both, the glass and the body color roof. The glass roof has a factory tint, but I was just wondering if I could darken it a little bit, since the sun down here in FL can get hot quite a bit.

That makes sense about the angle, someone told me one time that tinting some materials could cause it to crack, I didn't want to crack my roof.

Thanks
Steve

hmm.. I don't know about the spray on stuff... never seen it, but want to keep my car as clean as possible.... I could see myself making a mess.. heheh

The spray on stuff is a nightmare! Its almost always blurry and can make a mess if you do not know what you are doing.

Your tint guy is right, living in AZ with the beating sun is no place for a giant sticker (Tint). The glue on the tint will actually boil, bubble, then crack <---Beautiful.

Im not convinced it will actually hurt your top however why risk it? It will still make a mess out of your top (anyone ever try to remove tint before?).

Ecklers,MA, and Vette Am all carry sun shades for your top as to not let the sun beat on the interior as well. As for daily driving? Id suggest having the top refurbished with a bronze tint replacement.

(Just MHO of course)

Steve,
I have both tops also. In the summer when I'm running the acrylic top I have 2 different static cling peices I use. 1 is grey piece with little holes in it. It really kills the sun but also ruins the view through the roof. The piece that I really like is a very dark tinted static cling that is precut for the Vette. Both can be ordered from any of the usual suspects.. MAD, Ecklers, etc... About $20 ea. Neither are difficult to use and the dark tint cling style doesn't air bubble anywhere near what I was told.

You can also get static cling tint from Wal-Mart for less than $10 for a roll... all you would have to do is cut to fit your top

What I do is use the painted roof during the warm months (10 months out of the year down here in FL!) and the clear for the cooler months... it helps warm the car up during the winter
