can this tube be plugged

ok im sure this is some egr tube since it runs from the exhaust to the intake now can i get rid of this without having any issues 85 corvette auto

On a 1988 or a 1989 L98 the answer is leave it alone. Not sure about your 1985. This tube is the exhaust feed into the manifold for EGR control. Isn't there a small sensor on this tube with a single wire? 1988/9 has one that the ECM uses to monitor if the EGR is working.

If you do away with the EGR you could have pinging problems , especially when hot. The function of the EGR is to lower combustion temp under certain conditions. It in no way effects wide open power.

You can block it off there are block off kits for it. I am not sure about pros and cons of doing it. I know my brother has his blocked off on his 86.

I wonder how flexible the tubes are after yrs of use.. I could make and extension tube to bolt onto the exhaust manifold. With the equipment I have at work it would take no time at all.

i was thinking of adding a piece about 2 inches i have a guy here that is a very good welder i was going to take it to him and see what he says he s never failed me before i had a 96 z and the previos owner forgot to tell me the number spark plug hole was bad so youi can guess it was stripped and had some kind of epoxy holding it in well anyway the heads are alum and it took it 3 days to weld the hole shut when i took the head down to the machine shop to have it re drilled and faced the guy said that was the best job he had ever seen no air pockets or warping so ill go that way i ll go to work and machine a piece of stock out to fit over it have him weld it i ll just have to find a new piece of heat wrap to go around it any ideal there on the heat wrap it silver looks more like a heat blancket mine was destory anyway

The EGR can be eliminated. I'm in the process of doing that now. Some folks report the car throwing a code and some don't. I'm having a new chip burned taking the EGR provision out. I've never understood how taking hot exhaust gases immediately after they leave the combustion process and putting them back into the cylinder could be an advantage.

However, if you live in an area where they have emissions testing and inspection, all bets are off.

Once you acomplish altering the engine controls' diagnostics such that the lack of EGR hardware will not turn on the MIL, you need to modify the part throttle spark and fuel schedules to work without EGR. If you don't do that, the engine will have problems with detonation at any time the EGR was supposed to enable.

I just got a local welder to hack and reweld an inch out of a spare EGR pipe that I bought on eBay, so I could put Shorties on my LT1. I'm sure it can be lengthened equally as well. Just 'spread' the bend carefully, so you don't kink the tube. Twist and spread at the same time will help...

im going to weld it in the straight area of the pipe no where near the flex but it good to here that somebody has welded them before

Make a 2 flanges that bolts to the exhaust-EGR fittings.
Weld a piece of tube of the length you need between the two and bolt it in. That way no welding on the car.

85 or my 85 dont bolt to the exhaust it slips in and is held down by a clamp just my fricking luck

that would mean you need the right size tube to extend it.

does it bolt to the intake ? although that would be tough to get at.

i got a piece of tubing yesterday it does bolt to the intake and it looks fairly easy to get to i can see both bolts nothing blocking it so i should be alright but there s always a but im looking at a set of 86 exmainfolds where the 86 bolts to the ex manfold this could be a option cause i could weld all the air pump crap and keep the tube i ll no more tomorrow on them
