There's a hose (canister hose) connected at the front of the Q-jet that ends on the driver side above the wheel well and attaches to a canister. What is the purpose for this? I had a rebuilt carb installed and just noticed it was disconnected and plugged at the carb. Thanks, Hoss:confused

I don't have a cannister over the driver's side wheel well on my car, though there are two screw holes about 3 - 4 inches below the lip where it looks like something was there at one point. The only vacuum item I have in the area is the cruis control servo.

If you can, post a pic so I can see what I am missing.

evap canister?

Isn't that for the fumes from the gas tank, charcoal evaporative canister?
Heidi

Bob, mine is located just directly below the windshield wash bottle. It's black and round, a little smaller than a football (go skins). And Heidi, yes I think that is what it's for. I am re-attaching it and see if it gets rid off bogging down when I step on it. Thanks, Hoss

Found it. It does appear to be a charcoal canister. I have a slight gas smell and was planning on replacing it. Looks like a lot of fun to get down under there.

Now I wonder what should be mounted where those two small screw holes are.

Bob, it shouldn't be that tough....but you will definitely have to go at it from below. Just curious......where this connects ,at the port in front of your carburetor, what is there now? Is it capped off? Thanks, Hoss

Hoss,

Here are some scans from the assembly manual. Let me know if you need pictures. Save these to your disk and you can use an imaging program to make them bigger, rotate them, etc.

Overall system

Easiest way to work on it is to remove it brackets and all by removing the three bolts securing the brackets to the fenderwell. Unless you have a vented gas cap (which would not be correct for this year) you may form a vacuum in your fuel tank if this cannister has been removed and the vapor line to the tank capped off.

Thanks Bob.....that was most helpful. I reconnected mine to the carb via the vacuum hose. Now I need to call the mechanic and find out why it was disconnected and capped off at the carb?
