1991 Yellow Coupe
After 47 years on this Earth I finally got my Yellow Sports Car
a "91" Corvette with Targa top and in near perfect condition with 29,000 miles.
Now if this snow salt and cold will go away maybe I can drive it!
Beside an oil leak, valve covers I hope, the wheels clear coat has checked.
Trying to decide if I should keep original, go for the original style in chrome,
or update to the five spoke chrome wheel?
Also should I go OEM or aftermarket?
Thanks for the thoughts! Paul

Your choice of wheels is gonna be strictly that - your choice. You are the one to whom it matters most; take your time and look around for a while, then make a decision based on your personal preferences. You'll enjoy the compliments all that much more when the item to receive the compliment was your idea in the first place. :cool

As for OEM vs. aftermarket, you're gonna have two schools of thought there as well. Some people, such as my engine builder, prefers factory stuff most of the time over aftermarket. A lot of times that has to do with quality control.

Other people will tell you that the aftermarket items are always going to work better because the companies have narrowed their focus to that particular item, whereas the factory doesn't spend an excessive amount of time in the details. ;)

Above all, take your time when making your decisions; after all you waited this long to finally get the Vette, it ain't going anywhere soon. :v

It depends on whether or not you want to keep your new pride and joy stock, or not. Once you decide from there your options lay in front of you. I hope this helps..

My Choice

Lots of nice wheels out there but after trying to keep all kinds clean, I vote for chrome as the easiest. Good slick chrome a little soap and water and quick dry with a towel. No need to polish all the time.

The Y2K's are hard to beat, they jump out at you when they are on a C4. :)

I just replaced my ugly beat up stock wheels with the zr1 style in chrome. I bought a set of AFS wheels on Ebay. The only thing that worries me is the made in China stamped on the inside of the spokes, so I'm concerned about the quality and the chrome is missing around several of the stud holes. The chrome is very poor quality on the inside of the wheel but you get what you pay for. The center caps are plastic (but so are the stock ones) and they are made in Taiwan. I don't plan to use the car alll that much so they will probably be ok but if I intended to use it everyday, I don't think they would hold up.

This is what I wanted to see

Glad to see a little real world experience with AFS wheels. Just like Caninelver said you get what you pay for and I was wondering what the price was for AFS's over the ones advertised as made in USA. Anbody like to comment on the quality of the wheels they bought at one of the big suppliers , MA, Ecklers, etc.?

Congrats on the car. Yellow is a great color for Corvettes, although I may be a little prejudiced. I agree with the choice of ZR1 chrome wheels, they will really set your car off. What part of upstate NY are you located? I live right on the NY/PA border in the center of the state (PA) and I'm also waiting for the warm weather to finally arrive so I can get out there and drive.

What color is youor interior?

if it is Black I think the Black 5 Spoke GS wheels would look AWESOME on your vette

The black on Yellow kicks :booty :cool On the other hand, if you decide to stay stock, I have a perfect set of 9.5 sawblades I'd part with for the right price :beer

congratulations on your getting your Corvette.......... What took you so long :duh :D

IMO...... I'd stay with OEM's chromed, it just sez "class".

Welcome to this forum, it is wonderfull.

First I just want to thank everyone for there Ideas, I realize it's personal preferance,
and though I wanted to stay stock I'm now leaning towards the chrome ZR-1 wheels, I don't think I want to intentionally add anything to my Vette that has made in China stamped on it! so I think I'll pay the money and stay OEM
It's bad enough that the company I work for is sending all our jobs there.
The interior is black leather with dual sport seats.
I live in Webster next to Lake Ontario in upstate NY, it's been a long long winter!!!!
Take care everyone and Thanks again!

:L Don't look too closely at the inside of the wheels that came on the Vette, as delivered from the General. ;)

I want to add that I only paid $660 on Ebay for my AFS wheels plus $35 for lugs & about $80 for shipping for a total of 775 which is less than $200 per wheel. Compared to everything else I spent on the car (like $350-400 per wheel hub etc) and I am well over $6,000 since buying it 6 mths ago, I just can't complain about the wheels. I put the goodyear GS or DS or whatevers on and they run me more that the wheels. I just hate to know I bought something made in China but then, it seems like everything is made there now. Thats probably why they are so cheap. Its a tradeoff. Cheap goods = high unemployment. What a choice!

I feel your pain as well. We're frickin' addicts intantly on owning one of these cars ;) And yup the D3's are ovef a grande, no matter how you cut it, hope they last better than the Dunlops I paid 7+ bills for less than 5,000 mi ago :(

Oh yea, and Mr sensor, whoever your anonomousness is, why would you delete one of your own damn smiley's from my previuos post :confused

I think he meant the sawblades - Japan.
