Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

Can't turn to acc.

I found this doing a google search. It may be a VATS problem.http://corvette-nation.com/corvette-forums/viewtopic.php?t=29

BTW, there is bound to be a TSB on this problem somewhere. I originally got mine from AllData NOT the NHTSA like CAC uses. The TSB's linked to on CAC only list ONE for the 84....but I have TWO DOZEN on my site.... And many I never uploaded JUST on the 84!

The way the key moves in the ignition tumbler is totally dependent on the ignition switch (attached to the base of the steering column) being adjusted properly.

One would have to remove the hush panel beneath the column to gain access.

There is a small hex-sided screw at one end of the switch which needs to be loosened just a little bit.

Then the switch can be moved UP or DOWN the column which would change where the key would be for the different positions.

The switch is connected via a rod to the ignition tumbler/key assy. The adjustment of the switch causes the key to put the switch in the proper position.

The key should be easy to remove in the LOCK position.

The key should turn on the warning lites on the dashboard in the ON/RUN position.

The key should energize the starter in the START position.

The key should turn back to you to be in the ACC position.

VATS has nothing to do with the MECHANICAL position of the key. VATS has everything to do with STARTING the engine only.
