i noticed at a red light the tempature is aruond 220-230 and oil pressure around 25 its about 90 degrees outside is this normal it cools to about 215 when driving 40 on oil pressure

HI there,
While the temperatures that you are running are about normal, just make sure that your front of your radiator is blown free of debris with compressed air at every oil change.
This will also help keep your temperatures down.

Car running hot

I had a very similar thing the other day on my 1992 Coupe. I was idling in 92 degrees the A/C going and the car got to about 230 or so. I was worried of it over heating however as soon as I was able to move everything got normal. Still this is not good if you are cruising here in Miami and it start heating on you. Is this a common occurrence?

Hello,

I have a 91 and it does the same thing. My wife and I went to Helen, GA a couple of weekends ago and we were in 4 miles of traffic coming into Helen. It got very close to 250 or so, I turned my air conditioner off which was bad because it was so hot outside, however this held the temperature around 250. Now once I started moving at a good clip the temperature came down. BUT, the second I get into traffic, this thing heats up.

I am bringing it in today and having the chip replaced and a 160 termostat put in. I would like it to run somewhat cooler. I have a lot of cars and none of them run this warm, but according to all the posts, most all Corvettes do this.

I am made sure the radiator is clean of debris, flushed the radiator, etc. The only thing I have not done is put the Water Wetter in which I have heard a lot of good things about. Supposed to bring temperature down 20 degrees or so?

I figured I would chime in with this also.

Thank You!

oil pressure

thank u all for reply what about the oil pressure

r98Vette,

I do not know if this helps, but my car does the same thing!

Also, after the chip and thermostat it has made a big difference.

I also put WATER WETTER in and it lowered the water temp about 15 - 20 degrees in traffic. All of this was done today, but what a difference. You may want to try the WATER WETTER.

Now that the water temp is not so high my oil pressure is a lot better. Also I asked the service manager at Corvette Atlanta (the Final Touch) and he said make sure that it has synthetic oil or your oil pressure when hot will be really low as the oil starts breaking down. Synthetics do not break down as quick as regular motor oil.

Hope this helps!

I got it at Pep Boys. Any auto Parts store. About 6 or 7 dollars a bottle and I poured 2 bottles in.

Good Luck,

Larry,

What is the chip you mentioned. I also run about 225-230 when in traffic. Did it help as much as the water wetter?

BTDog,

I put the chip (Hypertech Thermochip) and the 160 degree thermostat in. I drove it home in heavy traffic. It seemed to run a little cooler than it has say last week. BUT, after I put the Water Wetter in it really ran nice and cool. That stuff works miracles just like all the pros says it does.

If doing over again, I would start with the cheapest route. 2 bottles of Water Wetter. Take a turkey baster or something to take out enough water out of your radiator tank to hold the two bottles of water wetter. Put the two bottles in and drive it a little. It made a big difference in my car. I even ran my AC with no problems in heavy traffic today and the car stayed at about 210 or 220. About 30 degrees cooler than normal.

Good Luck!

Larry,

Thanks a bunch. I will certainly be putting it in this weekend.
I notice you are just down the road a bit. If ever in beautiful downtown Flowery Branch let me know. Just got my 94 about a month ago and boy am I addicted. Great color on yours.

Later,

Mike
