Today, after my wallet is a LOT lighter, after a new water pump, opti, plugs & wires, and at 92K I cannot BELIEVE how well it runs. I didn't know it could EVEN run this good. I do not know if it was the plugs and wires or the opti or both but WHAT a difference!

PS for those that were interested, no word on MRI till 9 Sept. :bash

Paul

Paul, congratulations on getting your Vette to run like new! :upthumbs

92,000 miles is nothing for an LT1. The engine was designed by GM (Chevrolet) to run 250,000 miles without being torn down!

I have just over 100,000 miles on my LT4 and the darn thing runs better than when I picked it up from the dealership! Of course, I have done a lot of bolt-on mods. :chuckle

WILL SOMEONE PLEASE SAVE THE :w

I hit 90 today testing it out and it just purrs. I don't think I want any tickets though! ;)

LT4, I had NO idea they designed it to go 250,000 miles before a tear down! That's the distance from here to the moon!!! That's TEN times around the Earth!! :beer

Just a comment on mileage on an engine. Back in the 60s we drove the chevy small blocks to about 100,000 miles, then traded them in on a lower mileage or new car. The dealer in turn took the nice looking car, this car don't look like 100 k miles we will just put 56,000 miles on the odometer and sell it as such. The next unsupecting costumer comes in trades his 98,000 mile car for the 56k car and proceeds to drive it to 100,000 miles.;LOL This customer in turn trades it in at 99,000 miles again and the dealer again says,, humm looks more like 75,000 miles the seats are showing some wear at this point, and around it goes again. Only diff. the car uses some oil, so it might get a ring and bearing job to go another few k. So now the engine has a reputation on the street of needing an overhaul at 75,000 miles. :chuckle
Now consider the engines at that time ran about 3000 rpm at about 60 mph. The engines today run at about 1500 rpm at 60 mph. Almost half the rotations of the engines in the 60s. The last decade of engines has been built with far better material and much closer tolerances .Now don't you think that todays engines should go at least 200,000 miles without major internal repairs ? I have had more problems with chasies wearing out than the drive train.

Paul , I make sure your included in a prayer at least daily.:thumb

Glenn
:w

Glenn, first thanks for your prayers. My memory is failing fast, I have been putting stupid stuff where it does not belong etc. I need all the prayers I can get. Maybe it is just the meds I am on.

Anyway, what you wrote me laugh my BUTT off. I remember those days because my grandfather used to own an auto repair/body shop. I cut my teeth on mechanics then. What made me laugh out loud was I remember him doing this! I thought it was deception even then at 8 years old. But if I told HIM that he'd have my A**. He was just a little unscrupulous. :rotfl

Not easy to roll back a digital speedo unless you replace the CCM or is it the PCM? I wonder if there is a way to use a laptop and some cables to reprogram it. I wouldn't even be surprised if people did this. There's a lot of seedy people out there. :puke

A number of yrs ago a doc put me on meds for enlarged prostate. I couldn't concentrate well enough to program the CNC machines I worked on. I would forget what I was supposed be doing at times. Needless to say I quite using it very quickly.
a couple yrs ago I had the rotor rutor done. I was given something again to help control bladder while healing,, same thing.
Hopefully it is the meds causing some of your problem.

Glenn
:w

Yeah, I am on a boatload of meds and I looked them up and THREE can cause memory loss but I have been on two for a long time and the other I started in May just coincidentally when my wife said it started. But it is a heart med so I have to talk to my doctor. But I'm STILL sweating BULLETS till my neurologist can read the MRI on the 9th. But if had found something important they would have called my doctor right away. I wish people were as easy to fix as Vettes! Well, SOME parts of a Vette! :chuckle

Now consider the engines at that time ran about 3000 rpm at about 60 mph. The engines today run at about 1500 rpm at 60 mph.Glenn:w

Glenn, I don't know about you, but my LT4 sees 6,400rpm on quite a regular basis! How does that equate to engine wear! :boogie:boogie:boogie

I just cannot resist sometimes! :bash

I am hoping SOMEONE SAVES the GOSH DARN :w

Maybe you just need a new optispark!:L:L

I am hoping Paul sees the humor in what you said. I picked up on it right away! :L

Paul, the Optispark is the most maligned part on the LT1 & LT4 engines. Almost 90% of the time, folks will change out a perfectly good unit. Why? Because they misdiagnose the problem! :W

Perhaps the Drs are misdiagnosing your condition. THAT would be great! :upthumbs

Just like changing out a perfectly good Optispark! :)

NOW WILL SOMEONE PUHLEASE SAVE THE :w

Well fellas, this time it was bad. They put a trouble light on the #1 and it was not getting juice and it was fouled. I would have put an ammeter on it but a trouble light is just as good. Plus the wires and plugs have never been changed.

Now, maybe I do need an opti for my BRAIN! ;LOL
